In the DiMera living room, EJ asked Gwen why she would think that he had made Tony disappear. “Maybe because you and I did such a bang-up job of making Dimitri just vanish into thin air,” Gwen said. EJ argued that it had been Gwen’s idea to make Dimitri disappear. “You were more than happy to go along with that plan, weren’t you?” Gwen countered. With a shrug, EJ noted that unlike his con artist nephew, Tony was his best friend.

EJ asked Gwen if she had agreed to meet with Leo, and she said yes. “We need to stop this little parasite from uncovering what we’re really up to at the clinic one way or another,” EJ growled.

Cat was working on her laptop when Mark returned home. Cat informed Mark that she had paperwork for him for his new job. Mark explained that since he could not work with patients, he would be doing research. When Cat pushed for details, Mark said he did not have more information yet.

“Be careful,” Cat said. Confused, Mark asked Cat if she did not trust her boss. “Apparently he can be pretty ruthless when he wants to be,” Cat said. Mark told Cat that he would never again let anyone manipulate him like Clyde.

When Mark added that he was still angry at Chad for having broken Cat’s heart, Cat defended Chad. Cat asked about their mother. Mark hesitated before he admitted that there was bad news.

In the DiMera living room, EJ was ending a call with a hospital donor when Abe walked in and asked to talk about Theo. EJ admitted that he was concerned that Theo was running the company without Tony. Abe asked EJ if he had plans to go after Theo.

“I swear on Alexandra’s memory, I would never dream of going after her only son. If anything, I’ll gladly step in and help guide young Theodore in Antony’s absence,” EJ said. “That’s the last thing I want!” Abe said. Abe asked EJ to help him remove Theo from the company. “Lexie wouldn’t want something like this. And neither do I,” Abe said.

Outside the pub, Jennifer told Thomas that she was proud of his grades in school. Jennifer suggested they celebrate with a sundae in the pub. When Thomas nodded yes, Jennifer asked if he was still upset about being grounded for the pumpkin incident. Thomas nodded yes. Jennifer told Thomas that it was okay that Thomas had been upset with Cat for what she had done.

“But it is never okay to try and hurt someone, okay?” Jennifer said. Gwen rounded the corner. “Even if it is someone you can’t stand the sight of,” Jennifer whispered. Thomas told Gwen that they were celebrating his report card, and she noted that she was not surprised because Thomas was a bright young man. Gwen asked about Jack, but Thomas said Jack was in Boston. Thomas invited Gwen to join them, but Jennifer shook her head no at Gwen.

In the pub,Chad walked over and gave Leo a hug. “You doing okay?” Chad asked. Leo sniffled back tears. “Not really,” Leo stammered. Leo said he knew that Johnny and Chanel would be great parents to Tesoro, but that he missed him. “My heart goes out to you and Javi,” Chad said. “I don’t think anything prepares you for having to say goodbye to your kid,” Leo said. Leo started to cry again, and he apologized for his insensitivity.

“I mean, you had to say goodbye to your wife forever. And Tesoro, he is alive and well,” Leo said. “There is nothing to forgive. Leo, you’re going through it. I get it,” Chad said. Leo thanked Chad for his kindness. With a grin, Leo changed the subject to Chad’s kids. Leo complimented Charlotte and Thomas, and he noted that it was clear that Thomas was close to his father. Leo said he was genuinely happy for Johnny and Chanel. Chad smirked.

“I was thinking back to when we first met, how far you’ve come,” Chad said. “I’m not the selfish, scheming Leo I used to be?” Leo said. Leo and Chad chuckled about how the old Leo would have reacted. Gwen interrupted. Chad saw Jennifer walk in with Thomas, and he said goodbye to Leo. Gwen took Chad’s seat.

When Leo asked if Jennifer had berated Gwen on the way into the pub, Gwen admitted Jennifer had held her tongue. Gwen complained about the fact that Jennifer had hit her with a car while under the influence of pills, but yet Gwen still managed to be considered the villain. “Didn’t you also try to destroy her family?” Leo asked. Gwen reminded Leo that it was her family, and she resented that only Jennifer had been given a second chance.

“You’re old pal, Matty. Doesn’t he deserve a second chance?” Leo asked. Gwen pointed out that she had asked Leo to meet her for lunch. Gwen and Leo reminisced about a road trip they had taken together. “I’ve missed this,” Gwen said. “Me too,” Leo agreed. Gwen took Leo’s hand, and he pulled it away. Leo noted that Gwen’s turnaround from hostile to friendly in a week was suspicious.

“What the hell do you want?” Leo asked. Gwen told Leo that she had learned from a source that Dimitri had been spotted in Curacao. “You could help me track him down,” Gwen said. “What’s in it for me?” Leo asked. Gwen argued that it would be a great story for Leo. “Don’t you want to know what he’s been up to?” Gwen asked. Leo said no. After a moment, Leo asked Gwen if she was concerned that Dimitri would attempt to reclaim his fortune from her. Gwen argued that she would feel better to have her enemy in her sights. Leo told Gwen to hire Black Patch.

“[Steve] doesn’t know Dimitri the way you know Dimitri,” Gwen argued. Gwen pleaded with Leo to help them both get closure. Gwen told Leo that they both needed to know that Dimitri was not dead on a beach somewhere. “Did your source reveal something that would make you think that Dimitri is in danger?” Leo asked. Gwen noted that Leo still cared about Dimitri, but Leo said no. Leo noted that he had more important things to worry about. Gwen apologized for not having commented on Leo’s loss of Tesoro.

“Yes, today is the day that Tesoro was officially adopted,” Leo said. With his voice cracking, Leo offered to show Gwen photos. Leo retracted his offer, noting that the pain was too fresh and that he knew Gwen did not care. “It’s just hard knowing that I’m not going to be woken up by [Tesoro],” Leo said. Gwen softened. “My goodness. Is it possible that my Matty has actually grown a heart?” Gwen said. “Perhaps taking care of a child has helped me heal my own inner child,” Leo said.

After a moment, Leo noted that he had enjoyed their time together. Gwen agreed, and she changed the subject back to Dimitri. Gwen promised to cover all of Leo’s costs in his investigation, including a finder’s fee. Leo agreed to think about the offer. After Leo left, Gwen called EJ and told him that she had set Leo on a wild goose chase after Dimitri.

When Mark arrived at the clinic, EJ showed him the lab. “No one must know what you’re working on. Not even your sister,” EJ said. EJ explained that he was funding the research for Versavix, and Mark would help them navigate the red tape. Mark said he believed the drug could help a lot of people. Dr. Rolf entered the lab, and EJ introduced Mark to his new supervisor.

In the pub, Chad, Jennifer, and Thomas sat down at a table. Jennifer explained that she had intended to celebrate Thomas’ good grades, but he had not been in the mood. Chad assured Thomas that he was a good kid, but he had done a bad thing. “What’s important here is that you know that what you and Rachel did was wrong,” Chad said. Chad argued that everyone made mistakes.

“The key is to learn from our mistakes. Okay? We don’t beat ourselves up about them,” Chad said. “Yes,” Thomas whispered. Jennifer asked Thomas if he was ready for a sundae, and he grinned. Over dessert, Chad asked Jennifer about the gala. Jennifer said Jeremy was picking up Aunt Marie and Mike at the airport. Jennifer noted that Marie was thrilled to celebrate her father, Tom Horton. Chad complimented Jennifer on her story about Tom.

“You did your grandfather proud,” Chad said. As Chad’s phone beeped, he said that he needed to go into the office. Chad kissed Thomas goodbye and left. Jennifer noted that it was nice to see Thomas smile. “[Cat] is out of our lives for good,” Jennifer said. Jennifer noted that Thomas and Charlotte belonged with Chad in Salem.

As Chad was walking through the square, Chad warned EJ not to play matchmaker. Chad stressed that his relationship with Cat was over. After EJ walked away, Chad saw an emotional Cat in the square. “What’s going on?” Chad asked. “All the trauma that [my mother] experienced, it may have triggered early-onset dementia,” Cat said. Cat lamented that she could lose her mother all over again.

As Jennifer and Thomas walked into the square, they stared in disbelief as Chad hugged Cat. “He lied to me again!” Thomas yelped. Chad and Cat broke apart. “I’m so sorry,” Cat stammered before she ran off. Chad attempted to explain, but Thomas cut him off. “You don’t care about me! You don’t care about our family,” Thomas said. Thomas ran into the street. “No!” Chad and Jennifer screamed in unison as a car screeched.
