At the hospital gala for the new free clinic, EJ announced that Marlena had been evaluated at the hospital and that she was okay. “Our program will resume shortly,” EJ said. Kayla returned to the gala, and she told Steve and Sarah that Marlena was undergoing tests. Sarah asked to return with Kayla after the gala. “I should have been able to diagnose her by now,” Sarah said. Kayla noted that Sarah had thoroughly tested Marlena and that it wasn’t her fault.

Maggie asked Sarah about the divorce. Sarah said that Xander had not responded to the petition. “I’m sure it will go smoothly. I spoke to him the other day,” Maggie said. Maggie noted that Xander understood that he was going to lose his family because of his own actions. “But he intimated to me that he’s not going to fight you,” Maggie added. Sarah was surprised. Maggie encouraged Sarah to forget Xander for the evening.

Julie welcomed her brother, Steven, and Mike to the gala. Steven pointed at Julie’s necklace, and she confirmed she was wearing Alic’s necklace. “Have I told you how very sorry I am that I even for one minute thought you stole it?” Julie said. “Once or twice,” Steven said with a grin. Julie noted that Doug had sent her the money she had given him to pay off his debts, but she had not heard from him since. Mike admitted that Robert's niece Robin had talked to Doug III.

Mike confided that Doug III had told Robin that he was relieved that Julie had opened up her home and heart to Jeremy after all she had gone through with Doug III. “It would have been even kinder if he had said it to me personally,” Julie said. Mike agreed, and he noted that Doug was likely too ashamed to reach out. Mike thanked Julie for having taken in Jeremy. “I know he’s made some terrible decisions,” Mike said. “You could say that about a lot of Hortons,” Julie countered.

Fresh off a plane, Jack surprised Jennifer at the gala. “This is your big night. For you and the Hortons,” Jack said. Jack asked Jennifer why she appeared unhappy. Jennifer admitted that she was preoccupied with Thomas’ accident. Jennifer told Jack that she was concerned that Chad did not understand that he was emotionally damaging his children.

“So that’s why I think we need to take them to Boston, both of them,” Jennifer said. Jack noted that Jennifer knew Abigail better than anyone. “So you believe that this would be the right thing to do?” Jennifer asked. Jack agreed that Abigail would not want the children around Cat.

Eli approached EJ at the buffet table, and he asked to talk to EJ after the gala about the three missing members of the DiMera family. “Your brother Stefan, your brother Tony, and your nephew Dimitri, all of whom have just vanished,” Eli said. EJ urged Eli to keep law enforcement focused on Tony since he had not left of his own accord.

As EJ milled about the gala, Kayla told EJ that she had been skeptical about his motives in opening the clinic, but she was glad he had. At the buffet, Julie admitted to Eli that the gala brought back happy memories. Julie noted that Doug and David lived on in Eli. “And the rest of the Hortons. Although I do wish that I was able to meet more of them,” Eli said. Eli noted that Jennifer’s article had helped him feel closer to Tom, and he was eager to teach the twins about their family.

As Lucas and Mike hugged one another, Jennifer ran over. “Are those my dashing brothers?” Jennifer said. Mike complimented Jennifer on her article about Tom. Lucas pulled Jennifer aside to talk to her about Abigail’s kids. “I support you. But my support comes with some advice,” Lucas said. Lucas noted that his custody dispute had hurt his kids, and he warned Jennifer to be mindful of that possibility. “I’m trying to keep them from harm,” Jennifer stressed. “I know you feel like you’re doing the right thing,” Lucas said. Lucas said he hoped things went better for her than it had for him.

Across the way, siblings Steve and Jack talked about all the time they had spent as patients in University Hospital, including when Steve had given Jack his kidney. “It was a gift to me to be able to help you,” Steve said. Jack joked that he would always have a literal piece of Steve and Adrienne in him. “[Adrienne] brought us together,” Jack said. “I really miss her,” Steve agreed. Jack noted that Adrienne would always be with both of them.

Julie met up with Maggie at her table. “As I recall, on this very date, didn’t you marry Victor Kiriakis?” Julie asked. Maggie admitted that she had been thinking about her memories with Victor. “We had to put the Kiriakis estate up as collateral [for a loan]. Now, if we don’t turn the company around, we could lose everything,” Maggie said. Julie said she believed that Maggie was savvy enough to save Titan. “I wish Uncle Mickey could see you now,” Julie said. “A girl from the farm morphs into the boss in the boardroom,” Maggie said. Julie toasted to Maggie.

As EJ restarted the program, he called Sarah to the podium to talk about Tom and how he had been a guiding light to her as a doctor. “He was an example for all of us. One that I strive to follow every day,” Sarah said. Mike took the stage next, and he talked about his time at University Hospital. Mike talked about how Carrie had given him Tom’s silver pen when he had been named chief of staff.

“I’ve carried this with me every day since. Close to my heart. Just like my grandfather still is,” Mike said. Mike talked about how Tom had always put the care of his patients above everything else. Kayla spoke next. “All of our nurses and doctors strive every day to live up to Tom Horton’s example,” Kayla said. Kayla noted that Tom had cared about both patients and staff.

“He was also there to remind us to be grateful for the days when we could intervene in a positive, healing way, in the grand scheme of life and death. That is Tom Horton’s legacy. And one that I think every chief of staff since has tried to live up to,” Kayla said. EJ thanked the staff, and he noted that there was no better way to honor Tom’s legacy than a free clinic for the community.

When Paulina took the stage, she talked about Lexie’s time at the hospital. “[Lexie] strove to maintain Dr. Horton’s standard of excellence,” Paulina said. At Abe’s table, EJ whispered that Paulina was giving a great speech. Abe asked to speak to EJ after the gala. Marie took the stage next, and she talked about her childhood with her father.

“He’d get called away. I can’t tell you how many Sunday dinners and birthdays and even Christmas he missed. But then, when I grew up, I realized that’s why he was so special. And why he is beloved and respected,” Marie said. Marie noted that her father had sacrificed for the greater good. When Maggie spoke, she talked about her history with the family and as a volunteer at the hospital with Alice. Julie spoke about her hope that the clinic would offer stability and kindness to the community. “Qualities that my grandmother and my mother and my grandfather treasured most,” Julie said.

When Jennifer took the stage, she showed a slideshow that she had assembled with Stephanie. Jennifer narrated the slideshow, and she talked about Tom and the Horton family’s life in Salem. “He treated every employee and patient at University Hospital like family,” Jennifer said. The slideshow included photos of the children born over the years. Maggie thought about the birth of Sarah. Steve and Kayla thought about Stephanie’s birth.

“All the loved ones we’ve lost,” Jennifer said. Jack and Jennifer thought about Abigail’s burial. Kayla and Steve thought about Adrienne’s death. Julie thought about how she had comforted Hope after Addie’s death. Maggie squeezed Julie’s hand, and she thought about when Mickey had given her red dance shoes.

“All the traditions we’ve kept,” Jennifer said. Various Salemites thought about the annual Christmas reading at the hospital that Tom had started. “In addition to this being a place of healing and innovation, University Hospital brought the community together for laughter, charity, and hope. So with the opening of the Dr. Tom Horton Free Clinic, my grandfather’s legacy will continue to serve the community all the days of our lives. And beyond,” Jennifer said.

After the ceremony, Steve, Kayla, Jack, and Jennifer talked about all the memories over the years. Across the square, Julie thanked Marie, Steven, and Mike for returning home for the dedication. With tears in her eyes, Julie noted that Tom would not have imagined his legacy would have lived on so long after his death.

EJ met up with Eli, and Eli told him that he knew EJ had his own team searching for Tony in Greece. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to find my brother,” EJ said. Eli asked EJ to keep him in the loop if he learned anything. “You’ll be the first to know,” EJ said.

In the secret lab at the free clinic, Dr. Rolf stared at a cryogenic tube. “I think I’m getting close to the breakthrough we’ve been waiting for,” Rolf whispered. Back at the square, Paulina told EJ that Kristen had escaped from prison. In an unknown room, someone removed a blindfold from a handcuffed Kristen. “Tony?” Kristen said.
