In today’s Days of our Lives recap for Monday, October 12, 2026, the specter of Kristen haunts Brady, Stephanie casts suspicion, Alex lays down the law, and Holly gets an unexpected offer from an even more unexpected source.
Haunting Hotline

In Horton Town Square, Mason and Holly spotted each other. To Holly’s surprise, Mason invited her to join him. Holly explained she was on her way to visit Tate’s sister Rachel in the hospital. She hesitantly mentioned Tate’s prior conversation with Mason in which Mason had admitted to being too hard on Holly. Mason acknowledged his unfair behavior and asked if he could provide context.
As Holly gave the okay and settled down, Mason opened up about serving in Afghanistan with a good friend, Joaquin, who had suffered from PTSD and mental illness and who had eventually taken his own life. Holly offered her sympathy, and Mason explained how the belief he could have done more for his friend had compelled him to study to become a social worker and to volunteer at the crisis helpline.
Holly correctly surmised that Mason had talked with Sophia during his tenure there. He admitted that his lashing out at Holly had been in a way lashing out at himself because he couldn’t help Sophia. Holly urged Mason not to blame himself, while he indicated Holly didn’t have to be understanding because he now knew Sophia had hurt her badly…and downplayed the extent of her actions during their talks.
Holly confided that she could relate to what Mason was feeling because a big part of her still remembered her friendship with Sophia. Holly was haunted by the extent of Sophia’s spiral and any part she may have played. Mason suggested there was a way Holly could feel better about herself: like him, she could volunteer at the helpline. When Holly expressed reservations about her preparedness, Mason assured her that Marlena would be on-hand to teach her everything she needed to know.
In addition, Mason himself was a training mentor and could help guide Holly as well, if she was interested. Holly promised to think about it. She sincerely thanked Mason for the talk before departing.
Testing the Boundaries

At Alex’s apartment, Stephanie opened the door just as Joy had promptly returned to her wheelchair. Joy angrily asked why Stephanie was there. Stephanie tried to explain that she’d heard Kelsey crying and was concerned, but Joy acted offended and accused Stephanie of not believing Joy could take care of her own child. Alex walked inside as the verbal assault ensued and demanded to know what had happened. Joy ranted about Stephanie violating the restraining order in such a short time.
After hearing Stephanie’s side of the story, Alex defended his wife. Joy continued with her rant, unabated, until Stephanie eventually made her exit. Alex saw Stephanie out and returned to Joy and Kelsey. Alex again tried to argue in favor of Stephanie. But when he mentioned all the sacrifices Stephanie had made, Joy made a sarcastic retort.
Alex had enough and declared his certainty that the current living situation wouldn’t work out, which caught Joy off guard. Sensing she'd overplayed her hand, Joy immediately backtracked and apologized for her ill mood, blaming it on her frustration at being unable to care for Kelsey. Alex was insistent that Stephanie would no longer be an “afterthought.” He wouldn’t let the situation destroy his marriage any further.
Joy and Alex had an army of people ready to help with Kelsey, Alex asserted. And the first order of business would be finding Joy a permanent place to live…outside of his apartment. Despite Joy’s protests, Alex held firm.
Master Manipulators

At the hospital, Kayla provided a relieved Brady with an update: Rachel was on the road to recovery. Brady lamented that despite all his daughter’s physical pain, what hurt her the most was Kristen’s absence. He still couldn’t understand why Kristen had skipped town, other than EJ’s obvious involvement. Kayla was able to provide some reluctant clarity on the matter. She informed Brady about Steve’s enlightening discussion with Johnny, in which Johnny had revealed Kristen’s recruitment of Sophia to murder him.
Brady was surprised but not entirely stunned by the revelation. After all, Kristen had been responsible for the death of Melinda’s daughter, Hayley, as well as burying Kate alive and various crimes against Chloe. Both Brady and Kayla had a better understanding of why EJ had targeted Kristen. After he absorbed the shocking news, Brady went to see Rachel.
Sitting by Rachel’s bedside, Brady talked to the slumbering girl. He knew how much she missed her mom. But learning of the extent of Kristen’s most recent cruel actions had made him realize that both Rachel and he would be better off if Kristen stayed out of their lives.
Meanwhile, back at the nurses’ station, Stephanie paid Kayla a visit. She told her mom all about the tense run-in with Joy. Stephanie’s next words rattled Kayla, though. Stephanie recalled that when she had opened the door of the apartment, she thought she had seen Joy’s leg moving. Moreover, it had appeared as if Joy was sitting back down in the chair.
Stephanie asked once again if Joy could possibly be faking. Kayla could only reiterate her previous assertion that all medical signs pointed to Joy’s paralysis being legitimate.
Dead Women Tell No Tales

In Paducah, Kentucky, diner waitress “Amelia” couldn’t believe her eyes when her customer lowered the menu and revealed her face. “Kristen,” Sophia gasped. Before Sophia could make a quick retreat, Kristen grabbed her arm and ushered her outside. Kristen knew why Sophia was in hiding…because the girl was wanted for attempted murder. Sophia hinted of the crimes Kristen had committed, which gave the older woman pause.
Sophia announced she remembered “everything.” As Kristen braced herself, Sophia recounted her memory of tossing her shoes into the water, grabbing the railing….and then somehow falling into the river, where she must have hit her head. Kristen breathed an inner sigh of relief while Sophia went on to detail surfacing in the water, making her way to a truck stop, and being rescued by a female trucker who had tended to her and eventually brought her to the diner, where she had scored a job. Sophia wondered if Kristen had come to finish the job of killing Sophia, as she knew her death would be to Kristen’s benefit.
Kristen claimed she was glad Sophia had survived and reassured Sophia that no one else would track her down. Kristen, too, had been forced to make a new life for herself following EJ’s discovery of her role in Johnny’s near-death. She regretted her extreme actions and attributed them to her stress about Rachel. Sophia also expressed remorse for what she had done to Johnny. She missed her family and hated being away from them.
Kristen and Sophia bonded somewhat over their mutual status as “ghosts” who couldn’t be with their loved ones. Sophia wouldn’t let the brief bonding moment get in the way of her bottom line, however. She hadn't forgotten that Kristen had manipulated her and then left her for dead. She wanted the money Kristen had promised her, or else she would out Kristen to the cops and, more importantly, to EJ. Kristen balked at the threats because no one would believe “crazy” Sophia.
Sophia stood her ground and reminded Kristen that she didn’t have the most impeccable track record with mental wellness either. At least Sophia had been taking her meds and making an effort to recover. When Kristen conceded and got on her phone to begin transferring funds, she was alarmed to see an encrypted message from Brady. After reading the message, Kristen announced she had to get back to Salem…with or without Sophia. Not wanting to lose her opportunity at a windfall, Sophia took off her apron and followed after Kristen.
Back at Salem University Hospital, Brady got a notification that his message had been read. He looked deeply disturbed by the prospect of Kristen’s imminent return.
Will the “ghosts” of Salem manage to stay hidden? Will Stephanie bust Joy? And will Holly make more than a phone connection with Mason? Sound off in the comments.
