In today’s Days of our Lives recap for Wednesday, October 14, 2026, reversals of fortune abound in Salem, as Lani gets news she never expected to hear, Leo gets a second chance with Javi, Philip gets a renewed lease on life, and Cat gets her job – and maybe more – back.

Beg Your Pardon

At the Horton house, Lani greeted a returning Eli, who expressed regret he couldn’t attend Chanel’s baby shower. With a knowing grin, Lani informed him it was better he’d missed the event since he might have been compelled to make a few arrests. She relayed the amusing story of the pot doughnut mix-up and remarked how not arresting her family members was the only benefit of her current non-status as a cop. The remark sobered the light mood and turned the conversation to Paulina’s proposed bid to get Lani pardoned. Lani filled Eli in on the governor’s rejection of her mom’s proposal.

The news angered Eli, and he again decried the injustice of Lani being punished for defending her mother. Lani explained that the governor planned to run for Senate, and she believed he didn’t want to be perceived as soft on crime. “Nothing comes between a politician and the next election,” Lani lamented. Paulina had sent Leo’s podcast and the supportive community comments to the governor, but Lani still considered her prospects of a pardon “dead in the water.” Lani’s one worry was how she would one day explain the circumstances of her incarceration to her children.

Eli vowed that he would be with Lani every step of the way, and he reassured her that Jules and Carver already knew her true character. Following the comforting pep talk, Eli further cheered Lani up with loving kisses. But it was the phone call she soon received from Paulina that made her and Eli especially joyous. The governor had mulled over the podcast comments and had a subsequent change of heart. Lani would get her pardon!

Follow the Money

At the Hernandez home, Gabi was less than pleased to arrive home to a stack of boxes…and a waiting Leo. He stammered out that he’d needed somewhere to offload the counterfeit goods he’d purchased with her money. Gabi suggested a bonfire or a mass dumping in the lake, but Leo rambled about the potential environmental violations. Gabi called the disposal of the goods a “you problem” for Leo and demanded to know what he’d uncovered during the investigation. Leo sheepishly admitted he hadn’t made any inroads in positively identifying the distributor.

Gabi declared Leo about as useful as a “spam folder,” while Leo tried to butter her up by labeling her a “gay icon.” Leo also insinuated all hope wasn’t lost because another player was in the mix and ready to help. The person had told Leo to “follow the money.” The moment Gabi heard Philip’s name in the same sentence as “casino,” she immediately shut down the idea. She wouldn’t risk a relapse into gambling for Philip, even if it meant letting the counterfeiters skate free. Leo sincerely complimented Gabi on her selflessness.

Javi soon arrived on the scene and battled his way through the boxes. Leo jumped to his own defense and tried to explain why he had broken his date with Javi. Once Javi learned Leo had been arrested, he sarcastically replied that the development was “on-brand” for Leo. To Leo’s surprise, Gabi also came to his defense and asserted that Leo was only helping her. After hearing the entire story, Javi suggested it would be a good topic for Leo’s podcast.

Leo was ecstatic that Javi had actually listened to his podcast, and they briefly discussed the topic of the first release: Lani and her unfair incarceration. When Javi mentioned Lani deserving a second chance, Leo openly pondered if he might be granted the same courtesy. Following a few tense beats of silence, Javi agreed to a new first date with Leo. The reporter happily made plans for the outing.

Project Hail Mary: The Sequel

At the Salem Inn, Philip called Gabi and told her all about the family’s miraculous last-minute save of the mansion. The couple made plans for a private celebration before ending the call. Soon thereafter, Gwen paid Philip a visit…with Philip’s luggage in tow. The suitcases had been delivered to her room by mistake. Gwen surmised from the state of Philip’s room that he was departing the inn for good.

Philip readily admitted that he was moving back home to the Kiriakis mansion. The news surprised Gwen, as she’d heard that the family had lost everything. Gwen’s inquiry gave Philip the opening to brag about his major victories as of late, especially in regard to saving Titan. He regaled Gwen with a condensed version of his exploits during the poker game and later at the casino. The story impressed Gwen, and she wanted all the juicy details, including how the “rush” felt of winning it all; Philip wistfully affirmed there was no other feeling like it.

Philip accepted Gwen’s invitation for a celebratory drink in the square. She gushed about how the tale could make for a great movie and mused about the actors who could play Philip. The duo saw Belle and Chad and joined them at their table. Belle noted Philip’s good mood, so he told her about securing the mansion…leaving out the bits unsuitable for the Salem district attorney's ears. Belle and Chad congratulated Philip, although both were shocked that Dominic Marino had backed out of the deal.

Later, Gwen escorted Philip back to his room and extended another invitation. She wanted some of his master card shark tips, and she wanted them in a game of poker between them. When Philip said a game was only effective with stakes involved, Gwen suggested an amendment: strip poker. With a moment's hesitation, Philip declined the offer because his girlfriend wouldn’t approve. After Gwen learned that Philip and Gabi had reunited, she willingly took her leave, announcing the last thing she needed was to incur the wrath of Gabi Hernandez.

Shared Secret Sibling

Prior to their chat with Philip and Gwen in Horton Town Square, Chad and Belle were already deep into the topic of Dominic Marino. Chad confirmed that he knew via EJ about the man maybe being his brother. Chad believed EJ had wanted to share the news with someone who would be just as impacted as himself. Belle and Chad marveled over the possibility of sharing a brother. Belle hoped the claims weren’t true, for Marlena’s sake.

Chad concurred and expressed guilt for his father’s continued decimation of lives from beyond the grave. Belle urged Chad not to take on Stefano’s burdens as his own. The couple talked the ramifications if the claims were true, including on EJ, who could lose his status as the favored son. And both found it odd that Dominic had abruptly pulled out of the Kiriakis mansion sale. They anxiously anticipated their potential sibling’s imminent arrival in Salem.

Trust, But Verify

At the DiMera mansion, EJ stopped Cat and asked her to stay. He confessed that Cat’s sudden decision to quit had caught him off guard. Cat wondered what EJ had expected, given he didn’t trust her. He corrected that Cat had only made that assumption but conceded that he had done nothing to correct it. EJ now believed Cat might be the only person in his life he could trust.

Cat listened as EJ railed against Johnny’s and Rita’s betrayals. While his son had suffered a crisis of misplaced morality, EJ was even more stunned by his long-time loyal ally’s deception. All of the recent developments had shaken EJ’s worldview, and he needed someone he could rely on. Cat asked if he needed her back only as an assistant, and she seemed disappointed when he responded that he needed her ISA skills. EJ explained the situation with Dominic Marino and how he could use her expertise to determine if the claims about the man possibly being a DiMera were true.

Cat insisted she no longer had ISA contacts. EJ stressed he could benefit from her research capabilities. Cat was willing to help but admitted it might be difficult given how personal their relationship had gotten. EJ confided he missed Cat: as an assistant, as a friend, and as possibly something more. He moved closer and stroked her hair. When Cat whispered that she had missed EJ, too, he pulled her in for a kiss.

Is Cat falling for EJ? How do Chad and Belle really feel about their increasingly too-close-for-comfort family ties? Will Philip revisit his decision not to take a gamble with Gwen? And will Leo and Lani get what they want most? Sound off in the comments.
