The episode opened with Mayor Paulina and Commander Abe Carver swearing their daughter in as a new-old officer at the Salem PD. It was an emotional moment as Jada handed Lani her badge and gun, with Eli looking on in tears. Lani thanked her mother for all she did to make this happen. After Shawn and Jada left, Lani asked Abe and Paulina to join them at the costume parade.

Johnny arrived home to be with the kids on their first Halloween all together. Chanel was glad to hear that Xander was doing better, but he was still a hot mess after his confrontation with his father. However, he assured Chanel that EJ was out of their lives for good this time. He knew he always went back, but that would not happen again. That was Chanel's first good news of the day.

The second good news came via a phone call. The results of the lumpectomy and biopsy had arrived. When Chanel got off the phone, she said, "Guess who's cancer-free?" Chanel immediately wanted to celebrate. She could finally breathe a sigh of relief after all these months. She would be around for a long time to watch her babies grow.

Johnny was ready for a party — 40 years down the line. For now, they had to take their kids trick-or-treating, something they would get to do for many years to come. However, they decided to sneak in a little celebrating in the bedroom before the Halloween festivities began.

Xander Wakes

At the hospital, Brady and Kayla discussed Xander's condition. Kayla said that Sarah was with him at the moment. Brady flashed back to watching Sarah cry to Xander that she loved him, as she begged him not to leave her. "I wouldn't expect her to be anywhere else," Brady said.

In Xander's room, Sarah sat vigil by his side and told him stories of his heroism in fairy tale form. As Sarah lay on Xander's chest, he whispered her name. He made sure she was all right. Sarah told him that he had saved her life. "I'm so happy you're awake," she cried. "I'm so happy I've awakened to you right there," Xander marvelled.

Xander made sure that the police had George's laptop, so he could breathe easy that he saved Sarah's reputation and career. After Kayla arrived to check on Xander, Sarah found Brady by the nurses' station and apologized for not reaching out sooner. Things had just been so chaotic. Brady understood. Soon, Kayla arrived with a positive prognosis.

Before Sarah could return to Xander's room, Brady awkwardly asked Sarah if she'd be returning to the Kiriakis mansion now. Sarah said that she and Victoria would. Brady wanted to take the conversation further, but soon Jada and Shawn arrived with questions.

Questions and Goodbye

Sarah took them in to see Xander, who was surprised to hear that George was dead and that he had killed a man. Jada noted that his gun was unlicensed, so Xander asked to speak with his attorney before going any further. He also reminded Jada that they now had George's laptop and lots of new dirt on EJ.

When Sarah returned to Brady, that's when the real emotions began. Brady admitted that he'd known Xander was a factor, but seeing her reaction when she thought she would lose him was enough clarification for Brady. Sarah belonged with Xander.

"What we had was really wonderful, but I want and deserve to be with someone who can give their full heart to me and that's not you," Brady said, tearfully. Sarah was stunned that Brady was breaking up with her, but Brady asserted that he was just setting her free.

A dazed Sarah returned to Xander's room, where he told her that Jada had been concerned about the gun. Sarah didn't think it would be an issue. She vowed not to let anything happen to Xander after he had just saved her life. She took Xander's hand and promised him that they would deal with this together. "You are one of the good guys and I'm so sorry that I didn't always see it that way," Sarah said.

Do you feel bad for Brady or does he just need to learn how to pick the right woman? Sound off in the comments.
