Sarah visited Xander at the hospital with Victoria dressed up in Tartan as Bonnie Prince Charlie. Sarah told Xander that Maggie was taking Victoria out because Victoria wanted Sarah to stay and help Xander get better quicker.

After Victoria left with Maggie, Xander told Sarah that she did not have to sit with him. Sarah told Xander that she wanted to spend Halloween with him, and she reminded him that he had nearly died to protect her. “I did what I had to do for Victoria’s mother,” Xander said.

Sarah talked about how she had worked to save Xander’s life, and she had realized she could not imagine a life without him. Sarah told Xander that she still loved him. When Sarah asked what he was thinking, Xander told Sarah he still loved her. “But what about Brady?” Xander asked. Sarah admitted that she and Brady had broken up.

“You’re the only man I love. The only man I want to be with,” Sarah said. Sarah kissed Xander. As Xander grunted in pain, Sarah insisted he get some rest. Sarah curled up next to Xander on the bed and held him in her arms. Sarah told Xander a fairy tale based on their story. As a sleepy Xander listened, he asked Sarah how Brady had reacted when she had broken up with him. Sarah started to explain, but Xander had already drifted off to sleep.

Friendship

At the bookstore, Foster walked in with a Wolfman mask. Julie joked that after all she had experienced in Salem over the years, she did not scare easily. Julie apologized for having to cancel their last date because of her busy schedule. Foster said he had received Julie’s message.

Concerned, Julie told Foster that she was worried that he wanted more than friendship from her. Foster said he had already realized that Julie was not interested. Julie apologized for the mixed signals. Foster said as a widower, he understood how difficult it was to move on. Foster confessed that he felt the same ambivalence toward a romantic relationship that Julie did, because he still loved his wife. Foster told Julie that he was grateful for her friendship.

Maggie arrived at the bookstore with Victoria. While Foster led Victoria into the children’s room, Maggie asked Julie about Foster. Julie confirmed that she had talked honestly with Foster, and they had agreed to be friends. Julie explained that her time with Foster had reminded her that Doug was her one true love and that she did not want anyone else. “I believe that my husband lives on in me,” Julie said. Maggie and Julie admitted they were thankful to have one another.

Scares and remembrances

Chad, dressed as Frankenstein, and Thomas, dressed as Dracula, talked about the events of the pumpkin incident the previous year. Thomas admitted that he was past his anger toward Cat, and he did not mind if Chad wanted to resume his friendship with her. As Chad pointed out costumes to avoid the subject, Cat bumped into him. Thomas told Cat that he was sorry for his past behavior toward her and that he no longer hated her. Cat thanked Thomas. Thomas said he was okay if Cat wanted to be friends with Chad. When Chad said no, Thomas asked why.

Across the square, Kristen crept around in disguise. Kristen texted Sophia to meet her at the motel. Kristen noticed that EJ was staring at her. Kristen slipped out of the square before EJ could reach her. EJ pivoted over toward Cat, Chad, and Thomas to say hello. EJ reminded Cat of their movie date. Cat announced that she needed to help Felicity at the bakery, and she hurried off.

While Thomas went to meet up with friends, EJ joked that Chad was one of the few people that still liked him. Chad disagreed. With a groan, EJ asked Chad if he was still upset about EJ’s relationship with Cat. Chad explained that Steve had accused EJ of having attacked him, and that Steve also believed that EJ was involved in the shooting at DiMera. EJ warned Chad not to print lies about him in the paper. EJ also ordered Chad to keep Leo off any stories about him. Chad refused to take orders from EJ about his paper.

With a sigh, EJ told Chad he would add him to the list of family members that had betrayed him. EJ told Chad that he had disowned Johnny. Chad defended Johnny’s decision to do the right thing, but EJ argued that Johnny was a selfish ingrate. Chad noted that it was the DiMera way to push away their sons when they felt disappointed in them. Chad reminded EJ that Stefano had repeatedly disowned his sons over the years, and that Chad himself had struggled in his relationship with Thomas. Chad told EJ that he had realized that if he had let Thomas go, he would lose him forever. “I’ve come to the realization that I am very much fine not being a DiMera enough,” Chad said.

When Thomas returned from the maze, he asked Chad if he did not want to be friends with Cat because of EJ. Chad told Thomas that Cat had done something that had upset him, but that he did not want anything bad to happen to her. Thomas visited the Ofrenda display, and he left some flowers and a note for Abigail.

Hellfire

EJ returned home, and he caught Kristen attempting to set fire to Stefano’s portrait. Furious, EJ grabbed the mini blowtorch from her. EJ flicked on the blowtorch and stared menacingly at Kristen.

When Kristen woke up, she was tied to a chair, surrounded by lit candles. EJ noted that the situation was just like the one Kristen and Sophia had set up to murder Johnny. Kristen begged EJ for mercy, and she said she regretted her actions. Cat walked in. “EJ! What the h*ll are you doing?” Cat yelled. EJ warned Cat not to intervene.

EJ argued that Kristen deserved to die. Cat asked EJ if his anger was about Kristen or about the fact that he had disowned Johnny. Cat calmly told EJ that he had changed. “You’re better than this,” Cat said as she took the blowtorch from EJ’s hand. EJ warned Kristen that if she ever harmed Johnny again, he would kill her.

After Kristen left, Cat told EJ that she was proud of him for having made the right decision. As they kissed, Cat shook EJ awake on the couch. Shaken by his dream, EJ led Cat into the kitchen to make popcorn for their movie. Outside on the patio, a hooded and masked figure stared through the glass doors.
