At the lake, Holly was preoccupied by the anonymous text she had received earlier in the evening. Tate assured Holly that the text was likely a wrong number and not to worry. Holly apologized for killing the vibe of the evening. Tate said he understood why Holly was still jumpy after all she had gone through. When Tate commented on how Mason had made things worse, Holly wondered aloud why Mason hated her when he had never met her. Tate told Holly that Mason did not know what a great person she was.

Holly asked Tate if he could train her to handle herself with a mugger the way Lani had. Tate said he had already intended to suggest that Holly learn self-defense, but that he did not want to teach her himself. “When it comes to you, I’m a lover not a fighter,” Tate said. “Who says we can’t be both?” Holly countered. After Tate and Holly made love by the lake, Tate promised to schedule a self-defense class for Holly at the gym.

Impulses

Xander, Brady, and Sarah sat at a table together. When Brady teased Sarah about her order, Xander looked annoyed at the flirting pair. Sarah asked Xander about the house, and he confirmed that the sale was almost final. As Xander and Sarah talked about a chapter in their lives ending, they shared a look. Brady commented that at least EJ had not secured the house.

Xander told Brady and Sarah that when he had gone to Johnny’s home to visit Chanel, he had passed George O’Halloran in the hallway. Xander noted that because it had been late and George had left in a huff, he believed it had been a heated meeting between George and Johnny. When Xander argued that Johnny was more involved in the cover-up than they had believed, Brady and Sarah shared a look.

Brady told Xander about the security camera footage he had reviewed with Steve, and that they had determined that Johnny had been there. Xander argued that Johnny was not a professional liar like his father, so they should apply pressure. Sarah argued that Johnny’s involvement was too deep for him to be willing to help expose DiMera because Johnny had two young kids and a sick wife to protect. Xander agreed. Sarah told Xander that she had filed an anonymous complaint to the FDA.

Frustrated, Xander argued that they had agreed not to let EJ know that they knew the truth. Xander was concerned that EJ would know that Sarah had filed the complaint, but Brady countered that EJ likely already knew that they had uncovered the real story. Brady and Sarah argued that their only option was to shine a spotlight on EJ and Johnny and use the resources of the FDA to force DiMera to make a mistake. Frustrated, Xander asked Brady how he could let Sarah enact a plan that could endanger her and Victoria. Brady stressed that he loved Sarah and would not put her in danger. Sarah warned both men not to talk about her like she was not in the room.

Sarah told Xander that the plan had been her idea, not Brady’s. Sarah reminded Xander that she had watched Destiny die, and she had watched Holly almost die as well. Xander grumbled that he had not been consulted first, and Sarah apologized. Brady asked Xander if he could get past it and continue to work with them to take down EJ. “Do you want me to be part of the team?” Xander asked. Sarah and Brady said yes. Xander agreed to stay to keep Sarah and Brady from acting on their impulses.

Complaints and Cover-ups

George O’Halloran called Johnny at home and demanded that Johnny meet with him. When Johnny arrived at DiMera, George handed Johnny an anonymous complaint from University Hospital to the FDA. The complaint alleged that DiMera had manufactured contaminated Coriseal and disposed of the evidence on Smith Island. Johnny asked George how the hospital had learned the truth. With a shrug, George noted that EJ had not answered his calls, so Johnny needed to handle the situation.

Johnny reminded George that he had not worked at the company during the events of the complaint. George noted that as CEO, Johnny was still responsible. With a sigh, Johnny asked George to tell him everything. George noted that he believed Sarah had filed the complaint based on EJ’s hunch. When Johnny asked George if EJ had covered his tracks, George said he was not sure. Johnny noted that if the FDA could link the company to the poisonings, it would be the end of DiMera Enterprises.

“And we could go to prison,” George added. After a couple deep breaths, Johnny noted that neither he nor EJ were responsible for any deaths, so he did not think any evidence that Sarah had collected would hurt them. George argued that if the accusations ended up in the news, it might be difficult to counter them. George suggested they “deny and deflect.”

As Luck Would Have It

In Monte Carlo, Gabi raved to Philip about his poker playing as they walked through the casino. Philip noted that although the win had been exciting, he had not won enough to save the company or the house. Philip thanked Gabi for having supported him. Gabi noted that she believed in second chances. As Gabi and Philip talked about dinner, a cry went up at the roulette table.

Philip wanted to gamble his winnings, but Gabi argued that Philip could not count on his luck to continue. “Go big or go home,” Philip said. Philip bet all his winnings on the number 18. Panicked, Gabi pleaded with Philip not to make a foolish bet, but he insisted that luck was on his side. The ball landed on 18 and Philip won. Philip grabbed Gabi and kissed her. When Gabi cautioned Philip not to bet again, Philip noted, “I have everything I need right here.” Philip pulled Gabi into his arms. After Philip collected his winnings, Philip confessed that he had held back the $5 million he had borrowed from Gabi when he had placed the bet on the roulette table. Philip and Gabi went to their hotel room and made love on a pile of money.
