In today’s Days of our Lives recap for September 21, 2026, Joy phoned a friend for a bad cause, Brady and Xander put their family feud aside for a good cause, and the price wasn't right for Philip.

In Horton Town Square, Philip and Gabi’s celebration continued. He called her his “lucky charm” and asked if she wanted to accompany him to the mansion. Philip couldn’t wait to see the looks on everyone’s faces when he announced the family home had been saved. Gabi declined, so an enthusiastic Philip went on his way.

Once alone, Gabi called Theo and started to ask her former boss if he could help her uncover who at DiMera had been behind the sale of counterfeit Gabi Chic purses. Theo stunned Gabi by revealing that he couldn’t assist because he’d quit the company. Quick to turn the development to her advantage, Gabi presented Theo with a tempting proposition: a job at Gabi Chic. She pitched him on the merits, the best of which would be the opportunity to get back at the DiMeras and expose their misdeeds. The call ended without a firm commitment from Theo.

At the Brady Pub, Brady told Xander that EJ was officially back in town. Xander practically salivated at the chance to strike back at his enemy and rub the investigation in EJ's face. Both Brady and Xander agreed they needed to protect Sarah from any fallout. The Kiriakis men reflected on the irony that they were actually working together.

Xander acknowledged they were family and that they had Sarah and Victoria in common as well. “Love it or hate it,” Xander added about their truce. “Maybe both,” Brady cracked. They also discussed the mystery of Dominic Marino’s connection to Stefano and the sale of the mansion to the man, which had gone through the night before. Xander made his departure after he received a text from Philip asking to meet at the mansion.

Later, at Brady’s place, Sarah returned home from a difficult day at the hospital. Brady was readily on-hand to provide comfort and a flirtatious distraction. Before the couple could move said distraction to the bedroom, however, Sarah got a call from Kayla, who seemingly delivered bad news. Following the call, Brady asked Sarah what was wrong. Shaken, she responded that a wrongful death lawsuit had been filed by Destiny’s parents against the hospital…and against Sarah herself.

Wheel of (Mis)Fortune

At the Kiriakis mansion, Philip’s jubilance turned to confusion when he arrived to an entirely empty mansion. He called out for Maggie and Xander, in vain. Philip perked up when Justin arrived on the scene...only to crush Philip’s hopes. Justin informed his cousin that the mansion had been sold and was currently in escrow. Philip panicked and begged Justin to reverse the deal because he had the money.

Philip’s news shocked Justin, and he asked how Philip had managed the last-minute windfall. Philip begged off on providing details and insisted Justin intervene. Justin likewise insisted the transaction couldn’t be undone, and he was surprised Philip hadn’t been told. Philip admitted he’d been out of touch but had sent Xander and Maggie an emergency text about canceling the sale because he’d secured the needed funds. But when Philip took a closer look at his phone, he saw that the message hadn’t been delivered.

Crestfallen, Philip bemoaned that Xander and Maggie hadn’t gotten his text and that he hadn’t called them instead. Justin tried to cheer his cousin up by reminding Philip that Titan could still be saved. “That’s something,” Philip conceded.

Later, Xander came through the door to discover Philip sitting on the floor and nursing a bottle of wine. Philip drunkenly rambled and Xander – who assumed Philip had come to say an official goodbye to the mansion – struggled to follow along. When Philip said he had the money to keep the house, which was now a lost cause, Xander didn’t believe him at first. Philip showed Xander his newly flush bank account, and Xander’s eyes widened. He recalled that Maggie had told him about a hare-brained scheme that she had managed to dissuade Philip from doing, and Philip confessed he’d lied to Maggie.

Philip filled Xander in on his lucky streak at poker and then at the roulette table. He pledged it had been a one-time-only return to gambling. Xander’s demeanor visibly changed when it sunk in that they could pay off EJ’s loan, leading Philip to joke that Xander had finally “unscrunched” his brow. The brothers shared a brief moment of joy as Xander bear-hugged Philip and twirled his still-woozy savior around.

The mood sobered when Philip and Xander took stock of the empty mansion. Philip could envision Victor’s missing portrait still staring at him with disappointment. Xander confided that the mansion had been the first place where he’d truly felt like he had a family. Philip and he vowed they'd always remain family and hugged again. With a last longing look at their home, the brothers turned off the lights and somberly walked out the door.

To Tell the Truth

Outside the Brady Pub, Alex encountered a shirtless Theo, who was on a jog. Theo stopped briefly and expressed his sympathies about Joy’s paralysis. Alex wondered how Theo knew about the development. Theo hesitantly admitted that Stephanie had told him after they’d run into each other the previous night. When Theo mentioned how hard the situation had been on Stephanie, Alex seemed to put Theo on subtle notice that his wife and he loved each other and were working through their challenges.

Meanwhile, at the hospital, Sarah – still on-shift at the time – examined Joy, who claimed she wasn't improving. Sarah reassured her patient and recommended a nerve conduction test to better pinpoint the origin of Joy’s inflammation. Joy immediately shot down the suggestion and argued that she was tired of being “poked and prodded.” Joy confessed she was scared, too.

Sarah said she could relate and opened up to Joy about her own struggles with temporary paralysis. The hardest part for Sarah had been her inability to be there for her infant daughter at full capacity. Joy admitted to feeling the same way, and she worried her condition could be permanent. Sarah offered more reassurance and brought up the test again. Joy stressed she wanted time before she took yet another test.

Alex arrived mid-discussion and tried to back Sarah up. Joy remained steadfast and reiterated the reasons why she was refusing. Alex implored her to undergo the test for Kelsey’s sake. Later, Alex took a breather in the waiting area. He got a surprise visit from Justin, who delivered the welcome good news that Philip had managed to save Titan. Alex was thankful for the development but still feeling the strain of Joy’s predicament.

Justin lent a listening ear while Alex weighed the delicate balancing act of being a good father and a good husband. He felt torn because when he attempted to improve one relationship, he ended up damaging the other. Worse, Alex could feel the distance growing between Stephanie and him. He feared Joy’s one-year ultimatum would drive the final nail in their marriage. Justin was supportive, with a word of caution to Alex about doing anything to upset Joy and upend the custody agreement.

Back in the hospital room, Joy searched her phone for information on nerve conduction tests. Afterwards, she called Craig. She withheld any information about her condition. With a peek to ensure no one was within earshot, Joy asked her dad to send muscle relaxants for a supposed pulled muscle.
