Days of our Lives Recap September 29: Johnny Called Rafe to Rat Out EJ

On the Tuesday, September 29, 2026, episode of Days of our Lives, Rafe was frustrated by Cat, Philip offered to help Leo, Xander threatened EJ, and Sydney begged Johnny not to throw their father under the bus.

At the Hernandez house, Gabi admitted to Rafe that she was back together with Philip. Rafe said that all that mattered was that Gabi was happy. After Gabi left, Cat walked in. Cat informed Rafe that EJ refused to believe that she was no longer with the ISA. Cat said she had quit.

Rafe was upset that Cat had lost access to EJ, and he warned Cat that EJ was vindictive with those he felt had betrayed him. Rafe asked Cat if she was happy to move on from the ISA. Cat confessed that she did not want to walk away from her mission, and she intended to see it through. Cat explained that she believed EJ would miss having her around. After Cat left Rafe’s home, she spotted EJ in the square. Cat pointedly ignored EJ, and he walked away.

At the DiMera mansion, Xander barged in and EJ introduced him to Sydney. Sensing the tension, Sydney left. EJ gleefully noted that Xander could not stop him from destroying Victor’s legacy. Xander warned EJ that if he did not stop going after Sarah, EJ would regret it. Xander argued that Sarah was innocent and that they both knew the truth about Destiny’s death and Holly’s illness. EJ played dumb.

Xander argued that EJ was behind the lawsuit against Sarah, and he warned EJ to end it. Xander insisted that the truth would come out regardless. EJ countered that Destiny had died because of Sarah’s lack of care and that the family deserved justice. Through gritted teeth, Xander said that the family would get justice when they proved that Destiny’s death had been DiMera Pharmaceutical’s fault. EJ insisted that there was no evidence to prove that DiMera was to blame.

When Xander accused EJ of having manufactured evidence, EJ argued that he did not need to create any evidence. EJ insisted that Sarah had been negligent. “So this is not about retaliation?” Xander asked. EJ said no.

With a smirk, EJ urged Xander to spend his remaining time until the loan was due to say goodbye to his company. Xander teased EJ about how he had lost out on the Kiriakis mansion. When Xander noted that it was embarrassing that EJ knew so little about Dominic, EJ countered that the real embarrassment was Xander’s loss of his father’s legacy. Unbaited, Xander said he was glad the family had decided to sell the home to Dominic.

After Xander left the DiMera mansion, he almost punched the wall outside of the pub in frustration. Instead Xander cursed EJ’s name. EJ texted Marlena to meet, but she said she was not well enough to work, and she told him to use his stress relievers. Xander breathed deep.

Johnny was at home when he received an email about the lawsuit against Sarah. Upset, Johnny called EJ and left him a voicemail begging him not to frame Sarah for the DiMera misdeeds. Chanel walked in and asked Johnny if he was okay. Johnny said no. Chanel pushed Johnny to tell her why Theo had quit, but Johnny would only say that EJ was making the situation worse. Johnny promised to tell Chanel the whole story once he put a stop to EJ’s plans. Chanel reluctantly told Johnny that she trusted him.

Johnny met up with Sydney at DiMera Enterprises. Johnny admitted that he had helped EJ cover up crimes, and that he was struggling with the guilt of his actions. Johnny said he hated that he was lying to his wife and behaving like his father. With a sigh, Johnny said his only choice was to go to the police.

Sydney argued that EJ and Johnny could both go to prison. Johnny agreed, but he explained that he could not let the damage continue to hurt more and more people. “People may have died,” Johnny said. Sydney warned Johnny not to tell her any details because she would be legally obligated to tell the truth in court. “I might not be able to stop you from narcing on dad, but I sure as h*ll can stop you from making me do it,” Sydney said. Sydney encouraged Johnny to let the FDA continue their investigation. Johnny insisted that he needed to “make it right.”

“I know that you know that it’s better to come forward with what I know and hope for some sort of leniency than gamble on getting away with murder,” Johnny said. Johnny joked that Sydney could take over as CEO after he went to prison. Sydney said she was not interested in the job or the family drama.

Leo was carting boxes of counterfeit Gabi Chic bags through the hallway of the Salem Inn when Philip offered to assist. When Leo noted that he intended to prove that EJ was behind the counterfeiting scheme, Philip asked to help. After Leo broke down the details of his plan, Philip advised him to follow the money instead of the supply chain.

Leo asked Philip if he could dig into the money laundering. Philip was reluctant to reconnect with his former underworld contacts, but Leo encouraged him to do it to help Gabi. Philip admitted that he wanted an opportunity to repay Gabi, but that he was leery of entering the gambling world again. Philip warned Leo to be careful because counterfeiting was the least objectionable part of a criminal enterprise. After Philip left, Leo found Philip’s poker chip.

While Chanel was out walking the kids, she ran into Gabi in the square. Chanel asked Gabi if she was interested in taking over DiMera Enterprises. Gabi said no. Chanel explained that Johnny was miserable, and that she was eager to find an option that helped Johnny leave the company with his pride intact. “DiMera is toxic,” Gabi said. Gabi wished Johnny luck.

Philip walked over to Gabi, and Chanel asked if they were an item again. Before the lovebirds could respond, Johnny texted Chanel, and she left to meet him. Philip told Gabi about his conversation with Leo. When Philip said he intended to use his old connections to help, Gabi reminded Philip that he had promised not to gamble again. Philip said he would not gamble, but he would talk to his contacts.

When Johnny returned home, Chanel asked him if he had done what he needed to do. “I wanted to see you one last time first,” Johnny said. Chanel told Johnny that she trusted him. Johnny promised to tell Chanel everything, but he did not want her involved. While Chanel checked on the kids, Johnny called Rafe and asked to meet.
