Days of our Lives Recap, September 30: Lani Faces Her Past and Future on Leo’s Podcast

In today’s Days of our Lives recap for Wednesday, September 30, 2026, Leo kicks off his podcast with two special guests, Tate meets Mason, Kate puts Philip in the hot seat, and Gwen and Cat ponder what comes next.

Breach of Trust

In Horton Town Square, Leo joined Gwen and Cat for a drink. He was buzzing with excitement about his first podcast, while Cat confided she no longer had a job. Gwen commended Cat on finally giving EJ the heave-ho, but Cat clarified that EJ didn't trust her, which had compelled her to quit. Gwen scoffed at the idea of EJ lecturing anyone about trust. She was glad that Cat had gotten out before EJ could stab her in the back, like he had done with Gwen.

The talk about EJ refocused after Gwen mentioned the large number of boxes for Leo that had been delivered to the Salem Inn. Leo said the arrivals were part of his plan to expose the Gabi Chic counterfeiters. Gwen immediately deemed EJ responsible for that nefarious plot as well, and she looked forward to Leo exposing him. When Leo took his leave for the podcast, Gwen and Cat briefly discussed Leo’s newfound “busy bee” status…and their own lack of busy-ness.

Gwen admitted that being filthy rich could get boring. And when Gwen got bored, she got into trouble. Cat, for her part, had “made a bet” on a future prospect – and she hoped it would pay off.

One and Done

At the Brady Pub, Philip greeted Kate with a gift he’d gotten for her in Monte Carlo. Kate left the gift unopened and asked why her son had suddenly taken off. Philip at first said it was a business trip and then, with hesitation, told Kate that he’d saved the company and exactly how he had saved it. Like Maggie, Kate worried that Philip would fall back into his gambling addiction. Philip promised her the gambling was "one-and-done" and refuted Kate’s assertion that Victor wouldn’t approve.

Kate conceded that she was happy Titan had been salvaged. But when Philip made a pitch about his mom returning to the company fold, Kate made it clear she had no intention of leaving her job at The Spectator. On cue, Kate’s new employee, Leo, arrived just as Philip was swearing Kate to secrecy about his windfall, at least until the loan payment had officially gone through.

Philip tensed up when Leo tried to discreetly bring up their deal about helping Gabi, but Kate made an inadvertent save when she ordered Leo to get back to work. Kate did ask what Leo had been referencing, and Philip stammered out an excuse that Leo had suggested Philip start his own podcast.

Mother and son also discussed the sale of the mansion. Kate had envisioned Philip one day raising a family in the household. If Kate ever approved of one of his girlfriends, Philip cracked. He defended the sale of the mansion to Dominic Marino. The family hadn’t known about Marino’s connection to Stefano, but they chose to believe anyone would have been better than EJ.

Kate finally opened the gift Philip had given her: an expensive scarf. The scarf would remind Kate of how Philip had saved the mansion. She once again implored her son to protect himself from his addiction. And Philip once again assured his mom that he would. Later, Kate got a call from Joy asking Kate to bring a package to the hospital that had been sent to the pub.

Gloves Off

At Tate’s gym, Tate and Holly divided their time between Holly’s self-defense training and stolen kisses. Tate commended Holly’s progress with training and lamented his own progress with securing new clients. He had posted fliers around town offering perks that he hoped would pick business up. While Holly went in the back to get dressed for her podcast interview, Tate greeted a potential new client: Mason Whitfield. Mason explained that he had wanted to upgrade his workout regimen and had seen Tate’s flier.

Tate asked Mason a few questions and learned that his new prospect had already received “advanced” training in the Marines. Both seemed enthusiastic…until Mason gave Tate his ID. Mason’s name gave Tate pause, and he indicated that his girlfriend had mentioned Mason several times. Just as a curious Mason asked about Tate’s girlfriend, Holly came from the back and stopped in her tracks when she saw Mason. He promptly realized that Tate was Holly’s boyfriend, said he didn’t know, and offered to leave.

Holly, to both men’s surprise, urged Mason to stay. She had to leave anyway, and did just that. Once Holly was gone, Tate confronted Mason about his beef with Holly. Mason told Tate about his association with Sophia. Tate went on the defense for Holly and stressed that Sophia had hurt many people, including members of his family.

Mason acknowledged that Sophia wasn’t blameless. His sessions with Marlena had helped him realize that he’d taken out his own anger and guilt on Holly. Mason opened up about his calls with Sophia and how they’d made him feel. Sophia had been in so much pain and inner turmoil. Every time she had called, Mason had been relieved because he’d believed she hadn’t given up.

When Sophia’s calls had ended, it had sent Mason into a spiral. Tate listened and sympathized with Mason. He’d grappled with his own guilt about Sophia. Ultimately, he’d understood that Sophia’s mental struggles had been no one’s fault. Mason lamented failing when someone needed him the most.

Later, Mason had another first Salem encounter…this time with Philip. The former soldiers met each other outside the pub and bonded over their respective military service.

Stark Raving Mad

At the Horton House, Lani and Eli enjoyed a last morning in bed before Eli left for an out-of-town FBI assignment. Lani begrudgingly said she had to leave herself and get ready for Leo’s podcast. Eli wondered about her reaction to the meeting, and Lani confided she was a little nervous and felt undeserving of the spotlight. Eli talked up his wife’s abilities and her giving nature. He concurred with Lani’s belief that the appearance could be a good way to promote public safety and awareness.

The topic of Paulina’s potential pardon of Lani also arose. Eli was all for it, since the erasure of Lani’s criminal record could open up so many doors career-wise for her…including possible reinstatement on the police force. Lani argued that the move could hurt her mom’s career and suggest favoritism. She wanted to put the whole nightmare of her imprisonment behind her and did not want to be pressured otherwise. Eli was supportive but reminded Lani of the injustice of her being sent to prison for saving Paulina’s life.

Later, at The Spectator office, Leo happily welcomed Lani and Holly to his podcast. He thanked them for coming and rambled a bit about his excitement. When Leo finally gave the all-clear to begin, he introduced Stark Raving Mad to listeners as a place where “everyday heroes” would be celebrated. Holly and Lani seemed to acclimate well and were all smiles at first. As the podcast proceeded, Holly detailed her close encounter with the mugger and credited “badass” Lani with saving her.

Lani added her own perspective, and she deftly transformed her account into a public service announcement about civilians staying safe by remaining calm and non-confrontational during a potentially violent situation. Leo clarified that Lani had once served as a police officer and a very capable detective. He added that many people believed she should still be serving the public. With implicit approval from Lani, Leo asked his guest to talk about her incarceration for the killing of her father.

Lani didn’t go into great detail, but she did confirm that she had walked into a fraught scene where her biological father Ray had been physically threatening her mother. Because of Ray’s prior history and because of his known violence against other members of her family, Lani had felt she had no other choice than to use deadly force to protect her mom.

Leo reiterated Lani’s bravery and asked his listeners for their thoughts on his guest’s heroic actions and the price she had paid for those actions. After the podcast ended, Lani thanked Leo for his gentle questioning. She was glad she had been open and honest during the interview.

Later, back in the square, Holly met again with Tate. He told her about his surprisingly cordial talk with Mason and about Mason’s admission that he had been unfair to Holly. She confessed that Mason’s accusations had gotten to her. She had begun to believe he might be right about her and still felt deep remorse for the way things had ended with Sophia.

Tate implored Holly not to blame herself, even as Holly spotted a woman on a bench and called after her, thinking the woman was Sophia. When the stranger got up to leave, Holly was aghast at her mistake. As Tate comforted her, Holly bemoaned the lingering legacy of her friend’s death.

Will Holly and Tate ever learn the true circumstances of Sophia’s demise? Is Sophia really dead? Could Mason have another connection to Philip? And should Lani get her pardon? Sound off in the comments.
