In today’s Days of our Lives recap for September 9, 2026, suspicious minds abound in Salem as Joy questioned her prognosis about her potential paralysis, Stephanie questioned her marriage, Steve and Brady questioned Johnny’s true allegiance, and Xander and Sarah questioned their own feelings.
Candid Camera

At Black Patch, Brady returned from an unsuccessful venture to catch a cheating spouse. Steve put some juice into his partner’s “boring” day by showing Brady a new surveillance video he’d acquired from the hospital. It had bothered Steve that he’d been focused on finding someone in the footage that matched EJ's description. When Arianna had disclosed what she’d overheard Johnny and EJ discussing, Steve had re-shifted his focus. Brady caught Steve’s drift but still couldn’t wrap his mind around Johnny being so deeply involved in the cover-up.
Steve argued that Johnny might have been acting to save Holly’s life. He brought up the footage, which had been enhanced with AI, on his computer. The video only caught a reflection in a mirror, since the person had worked hard to avoid cameras. But upon viewing the footage, Brady concurred with Steve’s assessment that the man in the video was indeed Johnny. Steve stressed the need to get information from the source, but Brady doubted Johnny would give anything up since he’d already mired himself in his father’s misdeeds.
The Fall Guy

At Johnny and Chanel’s place, Johnny received an unwelcome visitor in the form of DiMera employee George O’Halloran. George demanded to know why Johnny had sent Theo in his place for their meeting. Johnny defended his choice, but George let Johnny know that Theo was suspicious of him. Furthermore, George wouldn’t be going down for the whole Coriseal mess if the crimes involved were uncovered. Johnny protested that George had been the one to dump the tainted drugs, so he was ultimately responsible.
George countered that he was merely an underling following orders, and the authorities would want the top man, which was currently Johnny. His arguments that he hadn’t even been CEO at the time fell on deaf ears. Johnny was involved now and up to his eyeballs in EJ's crimes. As such, George wouldn’t take any more meetings with Theo. He ordered Johnny to keep his do-gooder cousin at bay.
Moreso, if George had any more troubles, he would be coming directly to Johnny because EJ had become too nervous and erratic. Johnny insisted he couldn’t be involved anymore. George literally left him with no other choice.
Later, Xander paid a still-rattled Johnny a visit, with congratulatory flowers in hand for Chanel. Johnny accepted the gift and shared a cordial conversation with his former boss. When the talk turned to parenthood, Xander grew wistful and advised Johnny to prioritize his family above all else. Xander’s prior bad acts had already cost him so much time with Victoria and had ultimately cost him the love of his life as well. He cautioned Johnny about following the same lonely path.
Following Xander’s departure, Johnny paced the floors with Trey. He got choked up as he talked to his son about how he’d made mistakes. Johnny vowed he would do better and be a better man for his kids.
Everlasting Love

Prior to his visit with Johnny, Xander was fielding business calls at the Brady Pub from worried employees. Catching sight of a picture of Victoria and him at the dance on his phone briefly brought a smile. When Sarah approached, Xander invited her to join him. He got contemplative again about the circumstances their family found themselves in. Sarah offered what reassurance she could.
Xander mentioned that he still had a box of Sarah’s things he’d discovered while moving into his new apartment. Sarah politely declined Xander’s invitation to retrieve it and said she’d pick it up the next time they exchanged Victoria. Xander hid his disappointment and said his goodbyes. Sarah’s gaze lingered as she watched him go. She wore the same conflicted expression when she later spotted Xander purchasing flowers in Horton Town Square.
Later, Sarah returned to her new home at Brady’s apartment to find Brady waiting with big news. He updated her about Johnny’s appearance on the hospital surveillance footage around the time of Holly’s crisis. Steve and Brady didn’t believe Johnny had skipped out on his son’s birthday party to go to the hospital for an innocent reason. The revelation angered Sarah anew, but she and Brady decided to table the discussion and focus on more positive matters….namely, their alone time. The couple decided to make the best of their privacy in the bedroom.
While Sarah was in the throes of lovemaking with Brady, however, it was Xander’s face she saw. Meanwhile, Xander was drawn to Sarah’s box at his apartment. He cradled her clothes, then went to bed alone.
Family Ties

At the hospital, Kayla sat Stephanie down for a chat in the waiting area. Stephanie admitted she didn’t want to see Alex now and lamented Joy’s new demands. Kayla listened to her daughter’s complaints with sympathy. Stephanie was certain Joy would take every opportunity to manipulate the situation to her advantage.
Kayla offered a more optimistic perspective. Number one, Joy’s amended agreement showed some sign of progress and a potential end to the drama. More importantly, Alex’s devotion to his daughter demonstrated he was a good man who was worthy of Stephanie and her love. If only they could go more than a day without another crisis testing them, Stephanie stated with frustration. When Alex stopped by with an update on Joy and a promise that she would soon be released from the hospital, Stephanie apologized for her overreaction and seemingly accepted Alex’s words of encouragement.
Yet during a later conversation with papa Steve, Stephanie opened up about her lingering doubts. She was at Alex and Joy’s mercy and had no control over the situation, which was becoming a pattern in her life. Stephanie didn’t know if her lack of control was a product of circumstance or of her own choices. Steve gave his daughter a pep talk and reminded her that she always had the choice to end things with Alex if that was what she wanted. Stephanie tearfully admitted that she wanted to make things work because she loved Alex so deeply, and she accepted Steve’s comforting hug.
Let’s Get Physical

In Joy’s hospital room, Joy experienced a brief post-surgery scare when she couldn’t feel her legs. After reassurances that the response was normal and should abate, Joy calmed. Alex was on hand to provide her company, encouragement, and an uplifting visit with Kelsey.
When Alex left to take Kelsey outside, a content Joy turned on her television. Cue another fantasy, this time featuring Joy dancing along to an eighties workout routine and decked out in eighties gear. A mullet-sporting and equally eighties-bedecked Alex enthusiastically joined the routine. Joy added to his enthusiasm by showing Alex a pregnancy test she had taken: they were having another baby! Alex twirled Joy around and gave her a passionate kiss.
Back to reality, Alex returned, with Kayla in tow. The doctor performed another examination on Joy’s legs….still no feeling. Joy panicked and cried out in despair. Kayla tried to tell her frantic patient that the seeming paralysis could still be temporary and the result of spinal inflammation.
Joy’s fear could not be quelled, though. Alex held Joy and promised he would be there for her, no matter what may come.
Is Joy putting her acting skills to good use, or are her worries sincere? Is Johnny in too deep? And will Xander and Sarah make their fantasies a reality? Sound off in the comments.
