Days of our Lives Recap August 31 to September 4: Investigations, Musical Interludes, and Daddy Dancing

On Days of Our Lives the week of August 31st through September 4th, Philip planned to gamble despite Maggie’s pleas, Johnny avoided questions, Javi kept Leo at arm's length, Chanel had good health news, Joy pined for Alex while he spent time with Stephanie, and EJ joined Chad and Belle on their flight to Italy after the Father-Daughter dance.

Poker Face

To help sell their engagement at the Monte Carlo poker game, Philip "proposed" to Gabi with Maggie’s ring. Maggie returned home unexpectedly, and Gabi hid the ring from her. When Philip accidentally let slip that he had a plan, Maggie guessed that Philip intended to gamble. Maggie begged Philip not to fall into his addiction again. Maggie thought she had convinced Philip not to enact his plan, but Philip plowed ahead.

Gwen yelled at EJ for not having told her about Lexie’s death. Gwen accused EJ of having helped Dimitri kidnap her. EJ threatened to tell the board that Gwen had been his co-conspirator in Rolf’s experiments. When Gwen told EJ about her immunity deal, EJ proposed a compromise. EJ agreed to let Gwen buy the hospital if she gave him a share of the business.

Leo asked Javi out for a drink, but Javi declined. Gabi told Leo why Gus had dumped Javi. Leo asked Gabi if she was helping them get back together, but Gwen interrupted to complain about EJ before Gabi could confirm. Gabi told Gwen that EJ was behind the counterfeit bags. Although Gwen declined to help Gabi attack EJ directly, she agreed to help. Leo found a lead on the dark web, and Gabi agreed to bankroll his investigation.

Leo met with Marlena to discuss Javi, and she advised him to let things unfold naturally. Javi told Rafe that Gus was right and that he still loved Leo. Rafe warned Javi not to take too long to tell Leo that he wanted to be with him, or he risked losing him.

Cat told Rafe that she had told an unconscious EJ she was in the ISA. When Cat went to visit EJ, she told him she had worked at the ISA and Clyde had retaliated. Cat said she had sworn off the agency. Cat gave EJ the option to kick her out of his life, but instead, he kissed her. Despite that, EJ appeared suspicious.

Chanel’s oncologist informed her that the tumor had not spread, but had shrunk. Abe visited and Chanel assured him that he would always be a grandfather to Olivia and Trey. Chanel encouraged Abe to reach out to Paulina.

When Chanel and Johnny returned home with baby Olivia, Paulina, Lani, and Marlena had finished the nursery for them. Marlena confronted Johnny about what EJ had done to Holly, but Johnny played dumb. Marlena did not believe him. Chanel heard Marlena push Johnny to tell the truth. Olivia’s cries ended the conversation. Later, Chanel demanded that Johnny tell her about his secret with EJ. Johnny swore that his loyalty was to Chanel, but he did not tell her about what EJ had done to Holly.

Xander met up with Marlena for therapy, and he told her that he was struggling with Sarah’s plan to move in with Brady. Marlena complimented Xander on having kept his temper in check. Xander told Marlena about their theory that EJ had poisoned Holly. Xander asked Marlena to talk to Johnny, and she agreed. Marlena did not mention her prior conversation with Johnny.

Julie asked Maggie to move in with her, and Maggie accepted. While packing, Maggie found a necklace from Daniel, and she gave it to Holly. While Holly was in the square to pick up a textbook, she ran into a classmate named Mason. Mason grew cold when he heard her name. A man attempted to rob Holly at knifepoint, but Lani subdued him. Mason asked what had happened, and he pointedly ignored Holly as he talked to Lani. Holly told Tate about the incident. Sarah worried aloud to Xander that EJ had ordered the mugging.

Kelsey recuperated from her ear infection. Steve offered to babysit so that Alex could spend time with Stephanie on a picnic. Philip pushed Joy to tell her family about her surgery, but she refused. Philip guessed that Joy’s main focus was to keep Alex tethered to her via Kelsey. Joy was defensive, and she kicked Philip out. When Philip told Brady, Brady offered to talk to Joy. Proving that Philip was not off base, Joy daydreamed that she stole Alex from Stephanie and married him.

A Night of Song and Dance

While hanging out in the town square, Victoria surprised Xander with her natural ability to play the piano and belt out a song. Sarah met up with them and Victoria serenaded her parents. Xander admitted that he would miss making family memories with Sarah and Victoria now that they were not living together. At the pub, Philip told Brady that Xander and Sarah had almost kissed.

Rachel was disappointed that Sarah was not there to help her get ready for the Father-Daughter dance. Brady asked Rachel if she missed Kristen, but Rachel said life was better with Kristen gone. Kristen sent Rachel a bracelet for the dance. Overwhelmed, Rachel admitted that she did miss her mother.

At the dance, Charlotte lamented to Chad that she did not remember much about her mother. Brady watched Sarah and Xander with their daughter. After the dance, Brady told Sarah that it was obvious that there was still something between her and Xander. Sarah admitted that she still loved Xander, but that she wanted to be with Brady. Xander overheard. At the end of the night, Xander encouraged Sarah to make a clean break and go home with Brady rather than spend one last night at the mansion.

Rita told EJ that Dominic Marino was the buyer for the Kiriakis mansion. EJ wondered aloud why Marino was intent on owning the property. EJ pushed Rita for info on Chad’s quest. Rita swore that she had no information. After EJ left, he called to ask about Stefano’s ring. Rita said she had not seen it, but she picked it up off of the table and pocketed it.

Marlena overheard Belle tell Paul on the phone about the Celtic knot on the lire. Marlena told Belle about Stefano’s father’s infatuation with Roman’s Irish mother. Marlena reviewed the evidence, and she told Belle to be careful. After the dance, Chad met up with Belle at the airport hangar and they opened the bottle of champagne that EJ had sent them.

Before takeoff, EJ announced he was joining their trip. When EJ confirmed that he had not sent them the champagne, Belle realized that the bottle held a new clue. Somewhere, a mysterious man watched Belle and Chad on a video feed as he sat in front of a chessboard and a photo of Stefano.
