On the Thursday, August 20, 2026, episode of Days of our Lives, Chanel's labor continued to progress slowly, Gwen and Leo reunited, Joy got bad news, and Gus had it with Javi.
Gwen and Leo Reunite
Gwen was surprised and thrilled to find Leo in the hallway outside his Salem Inn room. She was even more surprised to learn that Dimitri had willingly let him go. Gwen wondered if Leo had killed him, but he explained that Dimitri had finally seen the light and realized he couldn't keep Leo there forever.
"I am so glad that you're back. I felt so awful leaving you in Alamania with that absolute lunatic when you were the one who risked your life to come and rescue me," she said.
Leo and Gwen shared some tender friendship moments before pouring champagne and toasting to their "first class and lifelong" friendship. Leo was surprised to hear that Gwen did not take an immunity deal to put EJ behind bars because she feared what EJ would do, plus the authorities learning other things she had done.
Leo sighed that Hollywood had it all wrong because the bully always won in the end. Gwen begged to differ. After all, Dimitri didn't win, and the proof was that they were both free now. The old friends promised they would never double-cross one another again and "no more bloody love triangles."
Trouble for Chanel
Chad approached the hospital nurses' station to check on his sister. He swore to Theo that he had no idea what was really going on with Lexie or he would have told him.
Theo made it clear that "EJ's golden boy" knew where Lexie was and he wondered what else Johnny might be hiding. Theo changed the subject and asked Chad to donate blood. When Theo spotted Johnny, who was getting ice chips for Chanel, Chad left for the donation room. Johnny approached Theo, who was concerned about Chanel, but didn't want to talk to Johnny.
Johnny defended himself and said he had only known about Lexie being in the tunnels for a few hours before she was found. "I'd never do anything to hurt Lexie," Johnny insisted. "Coulda fooled me," Theo responded, before walking off.
Chanel was alarmed when Kayla told her that she needed another blood transfusion. Kayla assured her it was common for chemo patients and that her baby would be monitored very closely. Soon, another contraction came, and Chanel breathed through it as her labor progressed slowly.
Both Alex and Theo stopped in when Johnny was off getting ice chips. Johnny returned when Theo was still there. Chanel noticed the tension between the two men, but they didn't acknowledge it to Chanel. After Theo left, Chanel questioned her husband. Johnny claimed he and Theo had just had a business disagreement and it was no big deal.
Just then, Chanel thought she felt her water break. When they lifted the blankets to look, Johnny saw blood.
Bad News for Joy
Stephanie was giving blood when Alex walked in with Kelsey. He said he would come back later after Stephanie was done, but his wife stopped him. Alex didn't think he should stay in case it got back to Joy that she was around Kelsey. Stephanie said she understood when Alex tried to find someone to watch Kelsey.
Soon, Chad found Stephanie in the donation room, where they caught up on each other's lives. Stephanie gave Chad an update on her marriage situation. "Alex still doesn't want to be seen with his wife in public," she said. Chad told Stephanie about the daddy-daughter dance, which made Stephanie think of Alex taking Kelsey to one in a few years.
Chad noted how being a father could change a person. Stephanie admitted that she missed the old Alex. When Alex didn't return, Stephanie was annoyed, so Chad told her to find her husband and tell him how she was feeling. Stephanie then took off without even drinking any juice to regulate her blood sugar.
In her hospital room, Joy took a call from Chloe and told her that everything was fine. She ended the call on a lie when Kayla walked in, telling Chloe that she and Kelsey were late for a Mommy and Me class. Joy explained to Kayla that she hadn't told her family about her condition because she didn't need her overbearing mother there.
Kayla gave Joy some news. The more conservative treatment was not working and she needed surgery. Kayla assured Joy the surgery had a high success rate, but had to warn her that there was a small chance of paralysis if it didn't work. However, she did not see that as the likely outcome.
Later, Joy looked through some book choices to pass the time. When she came across Stephanie's book, she threw it across the room just as Alex approached the door with Kelsey. Joy apologized to Kelsey for scaring her before telling Alex the news from Kayla.
Joy broke down in Alex's arms from the worry and stress, just as Stephanie spotted them from the doorway. When Joy opened her eyes and saw Stephanie, she cried some more, prompting Stephanie to run off. She found Theo by the nurses' station and nearly passed out in his arms. She realized she should have had the juice. Alex walked by when Stephanie was leaning on Theo's shoulder.
Gwen and Leo Resume Life
After their reunion in the Salem Inn, Gwen and Leo each went about picking up where they left off. Gwen ran to the hospital to tell a busy Kayla she is still interested in buying it, while Leo called Marlena from Horton Town Square to book an appointment. That's where Leo ran into Javi and Gus. Javi ran to Leo as Gus watched.
Leo told Javi about his adventure in Alamania and how Dimitri had finally let him go. "I basically just told Dimitri that I don't love him and I would never love him," Leo said. Javi grew flustered and ran back to his table with Gus, who gave Javi the side eye. Gus finally confronted Javi on his feelings for Leo, telling him that there was "no denying the obvious."

Javi denied still loving Leo, but Gus didn't buy it. He finally told Leo that he couldn't be with him because he had feelings for someone else. He was going back to Texas.
