DiMera Secrets Turn Deadly as Xander Takes a Bullet for Sarah: Days of our Lives Two Scoops For the Week of October 19th

Days of our Lives spent the week proving that even a relatively simple plan can end with somebody bleeding on a laboratory floor. Xander and Sarah went hunting for the laptop that could clear her name, only to find George and a loaded gun waiting at the finish line.

Joy’s increasingly fragile paralysis scam nearly collapsed under the combined weight of muscle relaxants, suspicious relatives, and her own nerves. Kristen made the rare decision to put Rachel before herself, Sophia finally told Amy she was alive, and EJ’s attempt to contain the George problem somehow managed to make almost everything worse.

Xander Finally Showed Sarah What Protecting Her Really Looks Like

The week started with Johnny firing George after learning just how deeply he had been involved in the hospital records mess. That immediately created a bigger problem because George still had years of DiMera wrongdoing sitting on his laptop. Johnny and Steve realized they needed that computer before George could disappear with it, which sent Steve into surveillance mode and eventually got him tased outside George’s house while on stakeout.

Sarah was not willing to sit around once Johnny told her what happened. With Chanel recovering from surgery, Johnny stayed behind while Sarah brought Xander into the search. He arrived prepared, including with a gun tucked inside his jacket, which understandably gave Sarah pause. Xander insisted he was not looking for revenge and only wanted to protect her if George became dangerous. For once, those words were not followed by Xander doing the exact opposite five minutes later.

They found the laptop hidden behind a framed periodic table in the DiMera lab, which was apparently George’s idea of subtle security. Unfortunately, George walked in before they could leave. Sarah called his bluff when he threatened to involve the police, so George escalated matters by pulling a gun. Xander moved in front of Sarah and took the bullet meant for her, then fired back and dropped George.

That moment matters because Sarah has spent a long time wondering whether Xander can control the anger that has destroyed so much between them. This was not Xander attacking somebody because he felt betrayed or wanted payback. He reacted because Sarah was in danger. One bullet will not erase their history, but it gave Sarah something very different to think about when she looks at him now.

Joy’s Paralysis Lie Is Becoming Harder to Keep Upright

Joy spent another week proving that pretending to be paralyzed requires considerably more planning than she apparently anticipated. Stephanie remained convinced the entire thing was fake and even deliberately left her computer open so Alex could see her research. Kayla agreed to perform another examination, including reflex testing that Joy could have a harder time controlling.

Naturally, Joy came prepared with more muscle relaxants. Philip had already stumbled across the pills earlier in the week and questioned why Craig was prescribing them, but Joy managed to talk her way around that problem. She was less fortunate when Kayla announced another examination just after the medication started working. Johnny’s emergency interruption over Steve saved Joy from being tested, which may be the luckiest thing that has happened to her since this scheme began.

Then the pills knocked her out in the exam room. Joy dreamed that Alex walked in and caught her standing, immediately realized she had faked everything, called her out, and threatened to fight for full custody of Kelsey. It was exactly the nightmare Joy should be having because every part of her plan depends on Alex never seeing what everyone else is starting to notice.

When Joy woke up, Alex was really there, but he had not caught anything. Still, the dream clearly rattled her enough that she suddenly claimed she could feel his hand on her legs while he helped her back into the wheelchair. That may be Joy’s attempt to start manufacturing a miraculous recovery before the truth catches up with her. She has reached the point where ending the lie may be safer than maintaining it, which is impressive considering she created the entire problem herself.

Kristen and Sophia Both Learned That Love Sometimes Means Letting Go

Kristen spent most of the week at Rachel’s bedside after her condition took a frightening turn. Rachel developed peritonitis after her ruptured appendix and required emergency surgery, which gave Kristen and Brady plenty of time to revisit every argument they have ever had about her parenting. Brady did not soften much, even telling Kristen that Rachel had started believing her life might actually be better without her mother constantly bringing chaos into it.

That finally seemed to reach Kristen. Instead of fighting Brady for access to Rachel, she admitted that stepping away might actually be the right thing to do. When Rachel woke and begged her mother not to leave, Kristen resisted the easiest possible excuse to stay. She told Rachel she needed to work on herself and promised she would return when she was better.

Brady crying during the goodbye said almost everything the scene needed. He has spent years asking Kristen to put Rachel first, but seeing her actually do it was another matter. Kristen has made promises before, so nobody should clear shelf space for a parenting award just yet. Still, walking away voluntarily was a significant change from the woman who usually treats separation from Rachel as a declaration of war.

Sophia had her own emotional reunion when she encountered Amy at her grave. After listening to her mother grieve, Sophia finally revealed that she was alive and explained that she had believed disappearing would make everyone’s lives easier. Amy promised to protect her, but Sophia still felt she needed to leave Salem. That decision became much riskier once Mason heard a familiar voice in the park, because Sophia’s secret continues to survive mostly through extraordinary luck and other people looking in the wrong direction.

EJ’s George Problem Dragged Half of Salem Into Danger

EJ spent much of the week trying to contain damage that kept spreading faster than he could manage it. George had decades of compromising information on his laptop, and Johnny firing him made recovering that computer suddenly urgent. EJ arranged money, an escape plan, and even tickets to Fiji, apparently hoping George could disappear before anybody discovered what else he had done.

Meanwhile, Steve was already watching him. He tracked George from outside his house and learned that George planned to return to DiMera for the laptop before leaving town. Someone then came up behind Steve and tased him, which immediately put suspicion on EJ. Steve survived with a head injury and was furious that anyone had managed to get the jump on him, while Johnny was left considering the possibility that his own father had attacked the man helping him uncover the truth.

That fits neatly with Johnny’s growing determination to escape the DiMera way of doing business. Chanel asked him to leave the company for her and their children, and Johnny promised he would once he cleaned up the current disaster. Theo also warned him that the DiMera habit of avoiding consequences has a way of getting inside people. Johnny insists he is different, but apparently quitting the family business first requires solving one final criminal conspiracy.

The Dominic mystery continued hovering nearby as EJ questioned Dante and learned that Rita was the person who helped Dominic move into boarding school years ago. That connection only makes Dominic’s history with the DiMeras more suspicious, especially after he suddenly backed out of buying the Kiriakis mansion. Salem already has enough unexplained relatives and hidden family secrets to fill several genealogy websites, but nobody seems interested in slowing down.

OUTRO

Join us next time when Salem will presumably conduct a citywide seminar on why hiding incriminating laptops behind framed wall decorations is not an acceptable cybersecurity policy. Joy may announce that her legs recovered through positive thinking, Xander may discover that gunshot wounds are inconvenient, and EJ will probably insist everything is completely under control while standing beside something actively on fire.
