Days of our Lives spent the week discovering that good news often comes with a catch. Lexie reconnected with her family, though a few moments left people wondering whether something was off. Chanel's treatment debate continued creating headaches for everyone around her, troubling news emerged about EJ's miracle drug, and Gwen made sure EJ remembered that she's more than capable of playing offense.
Lexie's Return Keeps Getting Stranger
Lexie spent more time with Abe and Theo this week as everyone continued adjusting to having her back. For the most part, those scenes played exactly as you'd expect. Then Lexie started offering her opinions. Her remarks about Claire felt surprisingly pointed, and she never seemed especially eager to encourage Abe's relationship with Paulina. She occasionally sounded less like the woman the Carvers remembered and more like someone with an agenda.
At first, it was easy to dismiss these moments as growing pains. After all, death and resurrection probably aren't experiences covered in most therapy manuals. But by the middle of the week, the pattern was becoming harder to ignore.
Theo seemed especially affected by everything happening around him. Between his mother's return and the emotional chaos surrounding the people he loves, he looked overwhelmed more than once. That's understandable. Theo spent years grieving Lexie. Now she's back, and somehow things feel more complicated than ever.
Friday provided the biggest reason yet to be concerned. Just as EJ received alarming news from Dr. Rolf regarding the resurrected lab rat, Lexie suddenly appeared lightheaded and unsteady. Maybe it's stress. Maybe it's nothing. Or maybe Salem's latest miracle comes with a few extra instructions that nobody bothered to read. Either way, the timing was impossible to ignore.
Chanel Finally Heard What She Didn't Want to Hear
Sometimes the person delivering bad news isn't wrong. They're just unpopular. Chanel spent much of the week battling with Dr. George over her treatment options, and honestly, neither side came out looking especially great. The doctor managed to deliver life-changing medical information with all the warmth of a parking ticket. At the same time, Chanel seemed determined to reject anything attached to his name, regardless of the actual facts.
As the arguments over Chanel's treatment continued, Johnny spent much of the week trying to navigate the middle ground. Supporting Chanel was one thing. Convincing her to keep an open mind turned out to be something else entirely.
Paulina eventually cut through the argument and got to the heart of the issue. Nobody was saying Chanel had to stick with Dr. George. The real concern was whether she was letting her feelings about the doctor influence her decisions about the treatment itself.
The conversation looked a lot different by Friday than it did earlier in the week. Instead of arguing about one doctor, everyone seemed focused on getting Chanel another opinion and seeing where it led. That was probably the most productive development of the week.
Rolf's Miracle Drug May Already Be Falling Apart
Every miracle cure in Salem eventually comes with a warning label. The problem is that nobody ever reads it until something goes wrong.
Throughout the week, characters talked about EJ's experimental drug as though it might reshape the future of medicine. Rafe remarked that it could change humanity itself. Cat became increasingly determined to secure the treatment for her mother. EJ continued investing in its success. Everybody focused on what the drug could do.
Very few people focused on the rat. The important part of the experiment is that it died, was resurrected, and died again. That's the detail everyone seemed content to overlook until Friday finally forced it back into the conversation.
Rolf informed EJ that the necropsy results had revealed something concerning. We don't know exactly what he found, but we do know EJ looked worried. Given that EJ has survived murder attempts, hostile takeovers, and decades of DiMera family drama, it takes quite a bit to put that look on his face. Then Lexie nearly collapsed.
Clearly, the two events are connected. At the moment, Cat's mother, Lexie, and potentially countless future patients are all tied to a treatment that suddenly looks far less certain than it did a week ago.
Sarah Refuses to Let Destiny Become Another Salem Mystery
One thing Salem residents should know by now is that sudden deaths rarely stay simple for long. Sarah spent much of the week trying to make sense of Destiny's death, and the more she learned, the less satisfied she became with the obvious answers. Questions surrounding drugs, conflicting information, and Liam's involvement continued piling up.
What makes the story compelling is that Sarah isn't approaching it like a detective. She's approaching it like a doctor who feels something doesn't add up. That's often far more dangerous because doctors notice details other people miss.
Sarah knows what she saw and what doesn't fit. The more people try to move on from Destiny's death, the more determined she becomes to keep asking questions. History suggests she's probably right to do so.
Gwen Finally Came Prepared
EJ has spent years outmaneuvering people. This week, he finally ran into somebody who planned ahead.
Gwen's hospital takeover left EJ furious, but the real story wasn't the acquisition itself. It was the fact that Gwen anticipated exactly how EJ would react. She knew he would come after her. She knew he would look for leverage. Most importantly, she knew he would underestimate her.
That's where Leo entered the picture. Learning that Gwen had effectively created an insurance policy through Leo's possession of sensitive information was one of those rare moments when EJ found himself several moves behind instead of several moves ahead. It's a position he doesn't enjoy, and the look on his face said as much.
Gwen's plan was simple and brilliant: should she befall any bodily harm, a letter describing in detail EJ's nefarious resurrection project would reach Leo and ultimately the world. EJ is going to have to work hard to get out from under her thumb.
The Mystery of John Refuses to Stay Buried
Even in death, John Black continues finding ways to occupy Marlena's thoughts. The coin, the missing pawn, the chess set, and the growing collection of clues surrounding Stefano's final wishes continued hovering over several storylines this week. Whether these are genuine clues or simply grieving loved ones searching for meaning remains unclear.
Belle seems convinced there's something worth investigating. Marlena isn't quite sure what to believe. Brady appears caught somewhere in the middle. At this point, the mystery feels less important than what it represents. Nobody is ready to let John go, and maybe that's the point.
