Days of our Lives spent the week handing out apologies, ultimatums, stolen files, fake travel plans, and one deeply suspicious Christmas in July. EJ kept smiling his way through increasingly terrible decisions, Kristen and Lexie prepared for a switch that could cost both women everything, and Leo finally found a real lead on Gwen after charging through town with the determined confusion of a man whose concussion apparently came with frequent-flier miles.

Elsewhere, Philip and Gabi discovered that mutual attraction works faster than mediation, while Joy turned a custody agreement into something nobody could sign without first taking a deep breath.

EJ’s Charm Kept Working as the Case Against Him Grew

EJ spent much of the week proving that a character can do something despicable and still remain impossible to dislike completely. He comforted Holly, assured her that Amy’s lawsuit was practically handled, and presented himself as the one adult willing to protect her. The problem was that he also created the disaster by planting the pills that made Holly look guilty. Salem has seen plenty of men start a fire and then accept applause for locating the extinguisher, but EJ makes the routine look polished.

Xander finally connected the missing pieces and brought Sarah and Brady into the truth. Sarah realized she had been wrong to doubt Holly, apologized, and joined the growing group determined to prove EJ framed her. The team itself was almost as surprising as the accusation, since Xander, Sarah, and Brady usually need a carefully supervised room before they agree on lunch. Still, they now share one target, and EJ’s habit of underestimating people may be what finally catches up with him.

Marlena’s conversation with EJ helped explain why he remains so watchable even when his choices become indefensible. She reminded him that he is capable of profound goodness, which makes his darker turns feel like decisions rather than destiny. Susan Banks made the same argument in a more Susan fashion by blaming Stefano’s ring, cleansing it, and returning it with instructions. Whether the jewelry is influencing EJ or merely giving him something convenient to stare at, his soul has become a family group project.

Kate’s apology to Roman did not go nearly as smoothly. She insisted she would give up everything for him, but Roman admitted that although he still loved her, he was struggling to like her. That may have been the most honest description of their marriage available. Kate’s guilt over Titan and EJ’s attack on the company appeared genuine, but rebuilding trust will require more than another speech over a Pub table.

Leo Found Gwen’s Trail, but Dimitri Changed the Game

Cat reached Gwen’s confession before it physically disappeared from the lawyer’s filing cabinet and took it to Rafe, who initially responded by explaining everything she had done wrong. Once Cat walked him through the crimes Gwen admitted to, he finally acknowledged that she had found the missing piece. The letter tied Gwen’s disappearance to a much larger mess, even if it did not immediately hand them the kind of evidence that comes wrapped in a warrant and a helpful map.

Leo, still blaming his scattered thinking on a concussion from nearly a month ago, bounced between Marlena, Rafe, Javi, and the airstrip in search of Gwen. His conversation with Rafe finally produced something useful because Gwen’s smashed phone had been found near the cargo planes. Leo then acquired the flight logs with suspicious speed and discovered that one plane went to Alamainia. It was the rare moment when his panic, persistence, and complete inability to leave anything alone all became useful at once.

Dimitri’s reply, “Turnabout is fair play,” confirmed that Gwen’s disappearance was personal. The phrase generally means someone is receiving the same treatment they once handed out, and Dimitri clearly believes Gwen earned this particular return trip. Leo immediately prepared to follow, while Javi’s concern made Gus realize his boyfriend’s feelings for Leo were not as neatly buried as everyone had agreed to pretend.

When Javi said it was not safe for Leo to go alone, Gus’ expression suggested he knew exactly where the conversation was headed. His frustration had already been growing after Leo’s earlier visit and Javi’s obvious concern over Gwen’s disappearance. Leo may be flying toward an international rescue, but Gus and Javi’s relationship looks ready to encounter turbulence before anyone reaches the airport.

Kristen and Lexie Turned Goodbye Into a Dangerous Escape Plan

Kristen and EJ’s farewell was one of the week’s strongest scenes because both understood what was happening without saying it plainly. Kristen knew EJ intended to have her taken, and EJ knew she was planning something, though he could not be certain how much she understood. They spoke about Rachel, Johnny, Stefano, and the way they had started using their children as pieces in family warfare. Kristen’s observation landed because it was true, and EJ looked briefly forced to consider what they had become.

Their goodbye also showed that neither sibling was comfortable with what came next. Kristen said she wished EJ had been her and John’s child, while EJ told her that, DNA or not, she was the most DiMera of them all. Then, he sent the order anyway. Rita later noticed that EJ felt sad, but sadness did not stop the plan because Stefano’s children have always been excellent at confusing regret with restraint.

Kristen’s declaration that she would have all the time in the world to speak with Rachel carried another meaning entirely. EJ knew she would not have that time because he intended to send her away, while Kristen knew enough to prepare for the attempt. The whole exchange became a careful dance around the truth, with both siblings saying goodbye while pretending they were discussing an ordinary trip.

Lexie’s part of the plan carried even more weight because she had already begun saying goodbye to Abe and Theo. Her Christmas in July celebration gave the family one last happy memory, while her tears and insistence on traveling alone made it increasingly obvious that she was hiding something. Abe and Theo accepted her explanation because they wanted to believe they had more time, although Paulina immediately sensed that something about Lexie’s solo trip did not add up.

The wider DiMera fallout continued when Belle and Chad told Marlena they planned to investigate Stefano’s chessboard. Marlena had every reason to worry about Belle’s safety, especially when anything connected to Stefano tends to contain at least one trap and several decades of unresolved trauma. Rachel also tried to untangle whether Chad and Belle had become her double uncle and double aunt, proving the DiMera family tree now requires professional drafting software.

The rescue itself was less elegant. Kristen was thrown into a locked cargo container, Lexie arrived without a crowbar, and the enormous toolbox sitting behind her became noticeable when she walked in the opposite direction to find one. She tried picking the padlock before finally setting off in search of heavier equipment, only to collapse before she could free Kristen. The week ended without confirming either woman’s fate, which kept the tension exactly where it needed to be.

Philip and Gabi Repaired More Than Titan’s Finances

Gabi finally accepted that Philip and Xander probably had not stolen her design after all. Ari’s missing prototype offered a much more believable route for the copy to reach DiMera, and Gabi did something Salem residents often treat as experimental behavior: she admitted she had been wrong. Philip remained hurt that she had doubted him, but the apology and the transfer of her promised investment changed his mood quickly.

The kiss that followed felt earned because it came after several episodes of bruised pride, mistrust, and unfinished feelings. Gabi left with obvious butterflies, while Philip celebrated with a full happy dance once Alex walked in. It was ridiculous, joyful, and exactly the sort of character moment that works because the story underneath it mattered.

Gabi’s money may save Titan, but the kiss suggested she and Philip are no longer dealing with a strictly professional arrangement. He had already admitted that he still cared about her and had been in the relationship for the long haul. Once Gabi stopped treating him like the prime suspect in every corporate disaster, the attraction came rushing back with very little interest in behaving itself.

Philip’s dance also gave the week a badly needed moment of uncomplicated happiness. Most of Salem was dealing with kidnappings, conspiracies, terminal illness, and custody warfare, while Philip briefly celebrated good news without anyone interrupting to announce a body had been found. Titan still has a long way to go, but its new recovery plan apparently includes Gabi’s investment and several enthusiastic hip movements.

Joy Made Alex and Stephanie’s Custody Crisis Worse

Joy’s proposed custody terms were never going to work because they required Alex to keep Stephanie away from Kelsey. Her fear did not come from nowhere, since Stephanie nearly shot her during a traumatic episode, but the agreement treated Alex’s marriage like an inconvenience that could be removed from a legal document. Alex refused to sign, Stephanie blamed herself, and Joy kept insisting she was only protecting her daughter.

Belle tried reasoning with Joy, and for a moment it appeared she might reconsider. Then Stephanie arrived and pushed too hard, accusing Joy of trying to break up the marriage. Joy responded by calling her unstable and revealed that she had been ready to change her mind before the confrontation. Soap opera custody talks rarely end with everybody calmly initialing page four, but this one managed to become worse before anyone reached for a pen.

Stephanie’s frustration was understandable because Joy had repeatedly behaved as though Alex’s marriage should disappear now that Kelsey was in Salem. However, Stephanie did herself no favors by proving that Joy could still provoke a volatile response. Joy’s demand was unreasonable, but yelling at her immediately after arguing that she was no longer dangerous was not the strongest available demonstration.

The problem is that both women have understandable fears and terrible timing. Stephanie wants to protect her marriage and prove she is safe, while Joy wants control over who surrounds her child. Alex remains trapped between them, promising they will work everything out as though optimism counts as legal strategy. Unless somebody steps back, Kelsey’s first major family tradition may be listening to adults discuss her future in rooms where nobody hears anyone else.
