Arsenic and Late-Night Talk Shows: Is John Oliver About to Join Days of our Lives' Coriseal Mess?

John Oliver is ready for his close-up on Days of our Lives. The late-night talk show host already had his turn in Port Charles in June when he landed in the middle of the Cullum-Sidwell mess by helicopter. Now, he is arriving in Salem to test the water supply, so EJ had better watch out.

Oliver's Days of our Lives Turn

As DAYS fans know, EJ DiMera (Daniel Feuerriegel) has been trying to cover the fact that he released arsenic into the well water supply on Smith Island, although he hadn't meant to. When a batch of DiMera Pharmaceuticals' Coriseal was found to be tainted with arsenic, he ordered the batch to be destroyed, but his employee buried the pills instead.

The arsenic eventually got into the water supply at the Horton Cabin and nearly killed Holly Jonas (Ashley Puzemis). Now, Oliver will take his hilarious turn in Salem as Salem's chief water inspector on the August 11, 12, and 13 episodes. As we saw from this week's DAYS promo, Oliver will also be paying a visit to Mayor Paulina Price (Jackee Harry).

John Oliver the Soap Star

It was back in March when Oliver announced his desire to appear on a soap opera while making a plea on his talk show Last Week Tonight. He had watched Stephen A. Smith play Brick on General Hospital for years and wanted to have the same kind of fun.

"First, I don’t want to play myself,” he said. "I want to be a character and I want his name to be ridiculous. Also, I want to do something juicy, like murder, or slapping, or being slapped, or being someone’s long-lost something. And ideally, I’d like a dramatic close-up of my face. But in return, trust me, I will give my all to this performance."

In June, Oliver announced his wish had come true and he had taped roles on both DAYS and GH. He aired on GH in early July as WSB Director "Z," the man who found the scene on Spoon Island and cut a deal with Josslyn to lie about what had happened.

Oliver also got his close-up and slap on GH when he made a pass at Carly (Laura Wright) and she clobbered him. Will he get the same treatment in Salem? Stay tuned to find out.
