Days of our Lives is reportedly welcoming back a familiar face. According to multiple reports, Ryan Quan, a former co-head writer, now at General Hospital, is headed back to the show, taking over for exiting co-head writer Paula Cwikly.

Daytime Confidential was the first site to report that Quan was headed back to Salem, where he'll join co-head writer Jeanne Marie Ford as the show's new head writing team. (A show rep issued a "no comment" on the news.) Over the last few days, numerous outlets have been reporting the news, citing Daytime Confidential's report.

Quan began his daytime career as a writer's assistant on Passions, the axed NBC soap opera that ran from 1999 to 2008. Created by former DAYS head writer, the late James E. Reilly, Passions told the stories of four families -- the Cranes, the Lopez-Fitzgeralds, the Bennetts, and the Russells. A 200-year-old witch, Tabitha Lennox (Juliet Mills), and Timmy (the late Josh Ryan Evans), the doll that became a real-life boy, rounded out the main cast.

Passions actors Galen Gering (Rafe) and Eric Martsolf (Ethan), who joined DAYS as Rafe and Brady, weren't the only folks from Harmony who made their way to Salem. Quan came over, too, and began working his way up the ladder on the show's writing team.

In addition to writing DAYS, Quan's credits include the digital projects Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem and Days of Our Lives: A Very Salem Christmas. Also, Quan wrote for the show when the series made TV history, migrating from NBC, its home from 1965, to Peacock, the network's streaming platform.

Quan has won three Daytime Emmys for writing DAYS, and he's also won a trio of Writers Guild of America Awards for telling DAYS stories.

In 2025, Quan left DAYS and went to GH as a breakdown writer. If Quan were to start writing again for DAYS in the near future (the news has still not officially been announced), his material may not be seen until Summer 2027, given the show's lengthy lead time.
