Devlin, Leo, Stephanie, EJ, Philip: Nobody Had a Normal Week, Especially Devlin St. John: Days of our Lives Two Scoops for the week of August 10, 2026

Days of our Lives spent the week proving that no crisis is ever too serious to become substantially stranger before Friday. Lexie was dying in the DiMera tunnels while Theo desperately searched for her, Stephanie and Alex tried to keep their marriage upright while Joy continued leaning against it, and Philip decided the logical solution to Titan’s financial collapse was apparently high-stakes poker. Then Chief Water Inspector Devlin St. John arrived, threatened EJ over an environmental catastrophe, got drugged, slapped, tased, memory-wiped, stuffed into a cryogenic pod, and somehow still managed to seem like the most reasonable person involved.

Salem’s Strangest Side Adventure

Into this already crowded week strode Devlin St. John, Chief Water Inspector, municipal crusader, owner of the sewage treatment plant bearing his name, and a man whose conversational style suggested somebody had fed a thesaurus to a caffeinated golden retriever and then appointed it to local government. Devlin traced the poisoned Coriseal back to EJ after a drunken golf outing with George O’Halloran, inspected Smith Island, and discovered evidence of a cover-up that could contaminate Salem’s drinking water. His diagnosis was beautifully concise by Devlin standards: the situation was a “dumpster fire visible from space.”

What made John Oliver’s three-episode appearance work was that it did not feel like Salem stopped everything so a celebrity could wander through and wave at the audience. Devlin was inserted directly into an existing story, investigated an existing problem, confronted an existing villain, and created consequences that made perfect sense inside the Coriseal plot. It was less a guest appearance than a bizarre side corridor branching off the main hallway, furnished with environmental blackmail, flirtation with Rita, an immune system apparently comparable to that of an ostrich, and enough metaphors to make ordinary human speech file a grievance.

Then DAYS closed the corridor behind him almost as neatly as it opened it. EJ and Rita dosed Devlin with CRS-17. He woke convinced he had been “compromised,” punched and slapped his way through the situation, lost his recent memories, wandered around the mansion, got tased by Rita, and eventually ended up inside one of the DiMera cryogenic pods. Rita even slipped EJ some CRS-17 disguised as flu medicine, meaning EJ could forget Devlin ever happened, too. The entire adventure folded back into the main story with the precision of a pop-up book designed by Dr. Rolf after three espressos and a minor ethics violation.

Theo Found Lexie, but Salem May Lose Her Again

While Devlin was discovering exciting new ways to become unconscious, Theo spent the week realizing his mother had never gone to South Africa. Lani helped establish that Lexie had never boarded a commercial flight, Celeste confirmed she was not visiting her, and Cat knew considerably more than she could safely admit. Marlena eventually stopped protecting Lexie’s secret and told Theo the truth: his mother was not simply sick again; she was dying.

Theo finally reached Lexie in the tunnels on Friday and immediately sent Chad to get Abe. That should have been the emotional payoff after a week of searching, except now the story has arrived at the part nobody particularly wants to contemplate. Lexie already died once, Salem already mourned her, Abe already rebuilt his life, and viewers have already watched this family survive that loss. Bringing her back only to make everyone endure the same goodbye again would be an unusually elaborate way of reopening an old wound.

There is also a much more interesting possibility sitting right there. If somebody finds a last-minute way to save Lexie, Abe suddenly has an enormous emotional complication involving the woman he once considered the love of his life and Paulina, whose feelings for him clearly have not disappeared. Marlena practically telegraphed that possibility when she encouraged Paulina not to sever their connection completely. DAYS has already done the resurrection part, so keeping Lexie alive long enough to create actual consequences would feel considerably more worthwhile than simply putting the family through another funeral.

Joy Found New Ways to Test Stephanie and Alex

Stephanie moved out of the apartment this week, although she repeatedly emphasized that she was not leaving Alex. The problem was Joy, whose medical crisis and relationship with Alex through Kelsey kept pulling him closer while Stephanie increasingly felt pushed toward the margins. Chanel warned Alex directly not to let Joy interfere with his marriage, and Steve eventually delivered essentially the same message with considerably less wrapping paper.

Stephanie’s frustration made sense because this was no longer simply about accepting Alex’s daughter. She brought flowers to Joy from Kelsey, worried about whether Joy would ever allow her to become part of the baby’s life, and admitted to Kayla that she was afraid for her marriage. Alex, meanwhile, continued insisting that Joy meant nothing to him romantically and that his involvement was strictly about co-parenting.

By Thursday, Steve finally said what practically everyone else had been circling around: Joy was taking advantage of the situation to spend more time with Alex, and Alex needed boundaries. Alex seemed receptive and later reaffirmed that Stephanie was his wife, their apartment was their home, and they were going to have a proper date night. That is encouraging, although Salem relationships have historically treated “proper date night” as roughly the emotional equivalent of putting duct tape over a dashboard warning light.

Philip’s 'Save Titan' Plan Came With $5 Million Price Tag

Titan is collapsing, the Kiriakis estate may have to be sold, and Philip responded to this financial disaster by discovering what may be the most soap opera solution imaginable: gamble harder. He found a high-stakes poker game in Monte Carlo with a potential $200 million payoff, which sounds wonderful until reaching the tiny detail that the buy-in is $5 million. Philip does not have $5 million, so naturally he asked Gabi for what remained of Stefan’s inheritance.

Philip assured her that poker was the one thing he was genuinely good at, which is probably not the phrase anyone wants to hear immediately before handing over their entire remaining fortune. Gabi did not reject the idea outright, but she also did not exactly start packing for Monaco. The bigger issue is what happens if Philip loses, because then Titan remains financially doomed and Gabi is suddenly $5 million poorer.

Xander nearly discovered the plan before Philip stopped Gabi from explaining it, which is another encouraging sign from a business strategy built entirely around sound judgment. Titan desperately needs a miracle, but risking somebody else’s inheritance on a card game feels less like corporate restructuring and more like the opening act of a very expensive intervention.

Dimitri Believed Holding Leo Captive Counted as Romance

Dimitri remained utterly convinced that he and Leo belonged together, despite the minor obstacle that Leo repeatedly explained he did not want to be with him. When Rafe arrived, Leo ultimately offered himself in exchange for Gwen’s freedom, which Dimitri interpreted less as sacrifice and more as encouraging evidence that destiny had finally gotten its paperwork together.

Leo actually handled the situation with surprising clarity. He told Dimitri that he now understood what genuine love felt like and that staying because he had promised to sacrifice himself was not the same thing as choosing a relationship. Dimitri responded by insisting Leo could have that kind of love with him, thereby demonstrating that listening remains one of several skills currently unavailable at the Alamain estate.

Meanwhile, Rafe convinced Gwen that her best option was to give him EJ and leave while she still could. Gwen resisted abandoning Leo, but ultimately recognized that taking down EJ and escaping Dimitri was probably better than remaining imprisoned indefinitely. Dimitri may call what he is doing love, but when one participant needs an international law-enforcement officer to negotiate an exit strategy, the romance has probably wandered several ZIP Codes away from healthy.
