To Serve and Protect: Days of our Lives Two Scoops For the Week of January 19th

Let's face it. Days of our Lives' Salem PD is a scorching hot mess. A complete and utter hot mess, with a police commissioner who cannot solve a crime to save her life, and whose judgment as a cop and in her personal life is every kind of wrong for someone in law enforcement. Yes, we have come down on Jada a lot in recent months, but the character has become nothing but ridiculous as the Salem PD runs amok.

Let us dig in with those two scoops and count the ways that Jada often seems to be doing anything she can to lose a job she never should have been given in the first place.

Jada, stop trying to act tough

Never mind the fact that Jada gave a man from a dating app whom she had never met before her home address. Never mind the fact that Jada keeps dating either her subordinates or her bosses. Never mind the fact that Jada didn't know who she married several years ago (was he Everett or Bobbie?) or who she was going to marry last year (was he Rafe or Arnold?). Never mind that she thinks she rescued the DiMeras from the crypt, but all she did was stand in the living room talking about it while the DiMeras rescued themselves. That is all in the past. What did Jada do this week?

Well, she put on the tough act, as she always does, even when she is ready to haul the wrong perp in, as per usual. But was there really a need for her to literally bang on the door of the Horton house, where an old lady lives with her younger cousins? Did she really need to yell "POLICE!" through the door like it was an emergency life or death situation when Jeremy and Julie were just sitting on the couch sharing a pizza? Of course she did. She's Jada.

And when Julie and Jeremy finally opened the door, what did Jada do? Well, she proceeded to tell the man to whom she had given her address when she met him on a dating app that they had all the evidence they needed to prove that he was now a crazed stalker. Cause that is what you do when you don't have a warrant for someone's arrest. You tell them that you CAN arrest them, cause you know all, but you better come with me right now for questioning cause maybe we don't know all. Okay, what? Well, you'll have to ask Jada, because we don't know what.

And once Jada got Jeremy into the interrogation room? She asked him to tell her his side of the story, so he did. And she looked at him and told him he was lying. Did she have evidence he was lying? Did she have any evidence at all to even hold him? Nope. So, she had to let him go, but what was he ever doing there to begin with and how do you just tell a suspect that he was lying and then sneer that you're going to get him somehow, some way, so don't leave town? Really? This is law enforcement? Where is Anna Devane when you need her to do the job right? That's right. She's on General Hospital, locked in the bowels of Wyndemere somewhere.

The better cop

Maybe one day JJ Deveraux can take over for Jada, considering that he seems to now know how law enforcement should behave. Heck, we think he has always known deep down, but he did have that moment several years ago when fear took over, and he used his weapon before thinking. The guilt then overwhelmed him that he nearly took his own life months later.

As Jada bumbled her way through Stephanie's stalking case, as we expected she would, we got some meaningful moments from JJ as he and Theo discussed that fateful night when JJ shot him from behind, thinking he was an armed perp, when he was really just a young man with a hoodie on his head and without a weapon in his hand. JJ told Theo about his de-escalation training and protocols in place dictating when you are to draw your weapon, and how using your weapon is the absolute last resort of law enforcement. JJ is taking what he's learned and making sure to apply it to the job. And it's a very timely lesson indeed. His job is to serve and protect. Not to shoot first and ask questions later.

The dopey Days of our Lives detective

Sometimes ya gotta know when to hold 'em and know when to fold 'em, so maybe it's time for the patch in Black Patch to call it a day. The man who has Bo and Hope on the case from afar has the wrong perp in mind (of course) and also sees nothing super weird about EJ DiMera sending Alex and Stephanie an engagement gift.

Really, Steve? You just placed yourself in your daughter's apartment for the last month uninvited, annoying her and Alex ad nauseam, and then, when an obvious listening device shows up, you admire how lovely it is before loudly announcing your plans to lure the stalker out. Awesome job, Steve. Stephanie and Alex are really safe now.

Well, thankfully, Salem wasn't just about where law enforcement goes wrong this week. We got some of those good, dramatic, soapy moments that make soaps soap. We finally stopped wanting to slap Jennifer, but we might be side-eyeing her for a bit after months of insisting Chad was a bad father for the crime of hugging a woman. Jennifer finally kinda-sorta relented and admitted that Thomas and Charlotte were not in danger if they lived with their father after all, but our Jennifer Rose was really skating on thin ice there for a while.

However, we had to chuckle a bit at the scenes with the mediator. Yes, they tugged at our heartstrings, and Billy Flynn had us choked up a bit as she spoke of his love for his children and Abby, but what must that mediator think? She walks into a custody dispute between a widower father and two grandparents to hear about the mother's brutal murder, the woman who impersonated the presumed back-from-the-dead mother because the mother's killer forced her to, so the killer wouldn't murder the impersonator's mother. But then the dad fell in love with the impersonator, but he only hugged her to be nice before his son ran out into traffic. And if you were confused by all that, imagine what the mediator was thinking. But she lives in Salem, so perhaps she is used to it.

Imagine if that mediator ever had to work with Kristen and Brady regarding Rachel. That would make Chad, Jack, and Jennifer's case look like child's play. All Thomas did was run into traffic. Rachel shot her uncle after kidnapping her dad's girlfriend a few months prior. She later tried to poison her dad's next girlfriend before ending up in a mental hospital, where she ate paper to cover for her college-age buddy, who seems to have more mental health issues than Rachel will ever have.

But who didn't love listening to Holly read Sophia for filth after Sophia hauled off and slugged her out of nowhere. Holly said what we've all been thinking, but fake-mute Sophia had to keep her mouth shut and not fight back or she'd give away her game. But we're watching you, Sophia...

And we're loving you, Kristen. Yes, get your daughter out of that place and never think about Brady again. He doesn't want you, so it's time to stop wanting him.

Welp, Javi's gone

And that's a wrap for now on Leo and Javi. A sweet romance. A beautiful New Year's Eve wedding. A smarmy ex returns five minutes later and Javi decides it's time to go. We assume someone else will be playing Javi when he returns, so maybe this new Javi will have a little fight in him. Cause the Javi that just left us? Talk about disappointments.

It's also a wrap for us, so till next week, Scoopers, when we're sure Jada will somehow see to it that the stalker zooms right in on Stephanie via the most obvious listening device on soaps.
