Will a New Day Dawn For the DiMeras? — Days of our Lives Two Scoops For the Week of December 15

The DiMeras took center stage again this past week on Days of our Lives when more family members found a new home in the crypt. We even have a new unlikely favorite heroine, as Kristen continues to prove that nothing comes before her daughter.

How did Kristen become our fave?

No, really. We need to know. This character has been a thorn in Salem's side, John's side, Marlena's side, and Brady's side (among so many others) for decades, but motherhood has changed her. It took some work, some poison orchids along the way, and a whole lot of other machinations as Kristen took this journey, but she may just be where we want her. Someone we can root for who still has plenty of shades of gray (but not the kind Stephanie writes about).

We could feel her anguish this week as she learned Rachel was in Bayview. Her unwillingness to talk about it stemmed from her need to protect her daughter and not make light of something as traumatic as a little girl accidentally shooting her uncle.

However, we did enjoy her lunging at EJ because he was the one who forced her hand. All he had to do was wait a few more minutes to see what the verdict was. If Johnny had been found guilty, THEN Kristen could have swooped in with her false confession and the verdict would have been null and void. Ya couldn't think of that, EJ? Are you not a soap opera lawyer?

Poor Kristen is also the hottest mess around, with an infected wound on her hand, a sprained ankle, and a high fever. We just want to throw her a parade when she gets out of there (any day now), if she doesn't go find another poison orchid.

History lessons in the crypt and in the square

In case you didn't know who Lexie Carver was and how she died, you do now. Thanks to Julie's random chat with Liam Salejko and Theo and Chad's more appropriate chat in the crypt, we got an expository dialogue extravaganza we really did not need.

However, we enjoyed Theo and Chad's chat about parents, children, and mortality. Chad and Theo have always been close, even when Theo was a small child, so more of this, please, and less of Julie's busybody lessons to characters we barely know.

The end is nigh

Thankfully for the DiMeras, their ordeal is almost over. Spoilers make it appear that Peter Blake is the one who kidnapped them all and is now trying to fool them in the crypt, but Theo is not fooled. It also looks like Kristen is the hero(ine) of the day, but we want to know the point.

Why is Peter Blake back on the scene after all these decades and how is he going to stick around for an extended period if he is the bad guy? Yes, we know, bad guys can get away with anything on soaps (and real-life, too, it turns out), but there is something very strange about this out-of-nowhere return that does not sit right with us just yet.

Believe it or not, other things happened in Salem this week, even to the lone DiMera still wandering the streets of Salem. Johnny is considering becoming CEO, but that wouldn't be necessary anyway, since everyone will be back in action within the next few days.

But Chanel...hmmm...her HCG levels are elevated, so she thinks her cancer is back. Clearly, Sarah and Chanel have not yet thought about the other reason that HCG levels could be elevated. Considering that Sarah is a doctor, that was a bit jarring and silly, but pregnancy after adoption, here we come.

Donut powder dopiness

Did we really need that whole sordid nonsense this week involving Alex opening an envelope with white powder, only to find out it was donut powder from some retconned old lady aunt we'd never heard of? This ridiculousness led to a whole scene in the square with a Hazmat team that was completely unnecessary and added nothing to Stephanie's latest stalker story.

And Stephanie somehow believes that Jeremy is the only left-handed/ambidextrous human on Earth, because why the heck wouldn't he be in Stephanie's stalker world?

Days of our Lives odd and ends

Susan and Gwen are quite entertaining | Image: JPI

Give us more of Gwen and Susan going at it. They were the only two people left standing in the DiMera mansion last week and were everything we needed for comic relief. We just hope Gwen isn't really in on some insane plot to resurrect Stefano, the one story soap operas as a whole absolutely 100 percent do not need.

Has there been a more heavy-handed attempt at a pairing that just won't work than Brady and Sarah? They will never make sense together and there is still no reason to root for them because Xander and Sarah are clearly endgame and that is that.

We might start liking Jennifer again soon. She wasn't a jerk this week and handled Thomas' fears correctly, so she is slowly working her way back into our good graces. If only we could say the same for Brady, who is still treating his ailing mother terribly.

Till next week, Scoopers, when the DiMeras will be free and the ornaments will be hung. Merry Christmas and happy holidays to all, and to all, a good Salem.
