Apple Original Film's latest documentary film, The Last First: Winter K2, has dropped the official trailer. Directed by Amir Bar-Lev, the film follows a team of mountaineers who make their first successful winter ascent of K2 in Pakistan. The film premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, which took place in Park City and Salt Lake City, Utah. The Last First: Winter K2 is all set to globally release on Apple TV on October 2, 2026.
The Last First: Winter K2 takes the viewers to the deadly winters of 2021 when a group of climbers descended on K2 in hopes of achieving the impossible. The second-highest mountain, K2, is also one of the world's 14 peaks above 8,000 metres. K2 remained the only peak that nobody had successfully climbed during the winter. Around ten Nepali climbers reached the summit on January 16, 2021.
This documentary film not only showcases the victory but also the hardships they faced on their way to the peak. In the trailer, a climber (Colin) shared his traumatic experiences, revealing how extreme the conditions were, and people had to be flown to safety areas.

The Last First: Winter K2 follows Icelandic mountaineer John Snorri Sigurjónsson, Pakistani father-son mountaineers, Ali and Sajid Sadpara, and other commercial climbing expedition teams consisting of social media influencers and climbing enthusiasts.
It also features the film's crew members and the Nepalese team led by the late Nirmal Purja. What initially began as a race towards the summit became filled with dangerous hardships.
The trailer opens with Colin alerting the climbers as he says:
"People might die tonight."
The trailer then shifts to snaps of different climbers who have one ultimate goal: to be the first ones to summit K2 during the deadly winters, or, as they say, win the last great prize in mountaineering. As the different groups race to summit the K2 peak, they face extreme hardships. From avalanches to snowstorms to lack of food and water, the trailer explores the cost of extreme mountaineering. While one calls K2 the savage mountain, another adds that one out of four dies during a summit attempt.
