Optimus Prime voice actor Peter Cullen bids farewell

Peter Cullen died in his Los Angeles home while surrounded by his family members. His representatives didn't share an official cause of death, and they only mentioned that he passed away peacefully. To quote their words:

"Peter Cullen passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family - and held in the hearts of his many friends and countless fans worldwide."

Peter's family added,

"His family asks that you honor his remarkable legacy by serving your communities and leading others with compassion, integrity, and loyalty and always remember 'be strong enough to be gentle'."

The late actor was also popular for voicing the Predator in the 1987 cult classic. Disney fans also remember him as the voice of Monterey Jack in Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers and Captain Flint in Treasure Planet.

Peter was also honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) during the 2nd Annual Children's & Family Emmy Awards. After receiving the award, he joked that they might not have chosen the right Cullen.

In the first Transformers film, Peter delivered an unforgettable speech as Optimus Prime in the closing scene.

The dialogue:

"With the All Spark gone, we cannot return life to our planet. And fate has yielded its reward: a new world to call home. We live among its people now, hiding in plain sight, but watching over them in secret, waiting, protecting."

He ended his statement by saying that he had witnessed their courage, and even though they came from different worlds, they shared the same truth. He identified himself as Optimus Prime and sent a message to any surviving Autobots hiding among the stars and declared that they were here and waiting.

Peter Cullen voiced Optimus Prime for nearly the entire history of the character. He first took on the role in the original animated series in 1984 and continued to play the Autobot leader across every live‑action Transformers film including the five main entries as well as Bumblebee and Rise of the Beasts. Beyond movies, he also voiced Optimus Prime in modern animated series and numerous video games tied to the franchise.
