Alien: Romulus 2 rumors shut down as studio boss breaks silence

After an intense first movie, the fans have been eagerly waiting for Alien: Romulus 2. However, things took a turn when a rumor started to spread indicating that the sequel might have been shelved.

This caused an immense uproar among the viewers as the Fede Alvarez movie perfectly captured the intensity of an alien movie and set the stage for more. However, soon after the rumors about Alien: Romulus 2 began to spread, studio boss Steve Asbell broke the silence and shut down the rumors.

Though the post on which the 20th Century Studios president replied has been deleted, the post also spoke about the rumors regarding Alien: Romulus 2 being shelved indefinitely. However, Steve Asbell responded to the post with an answer shutting down all the rumors. Though he responded with the single word “Nope”, it is enough for the fans who have been eagerly waiting for the sequel.

Right after the release of Aliens: Romulus, the intense storyline involving the space station where the colonists come across a life-threatening danger, the movie became a global phenomenon with a 7.1 rating on IMDb. Besides the storyline, the talented cast members, including David Jonsson, Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, Archie Renaux, etc., depicted the grim and thrilling nature of the storyline in a nuanced manner.

David Jonsson brought life to the character of Andy, while Cailee Spaeny took on the role of Rain in the movie. The rumors regarding Alien: Romulus 2 being shelved started to gain the attention of the fandom, especially after speculations regarding the reasons started to surface. Many made the speculations and reported that, as David Jonsson is now cast as Black Panther, along with the rumors related to Cailee Spaeny being cast in X-Men, Alien: Romulus 2 might have been shelved.

On the other hand, the rumor of Brian Duffield writing a new Alien movie with the studio also surfaced, further adding to the worries of the fans regarding the sequel. Though Steve Asbell only responded with a single word and did not provide further details of the sequel, there is much anticipation regarding the whole situation. Through the years, the franchise has faced many setbacks.

Alien: Romulus became a significant driving factor in shifting the trajectory of the franchise with its immense success. Hence, it will be intriguing to see how Alien: Romulus 2 continues with the storyline. Previously, Fede Alvarez had also revealed that the script for Alien: Romulus 2 was complete. The filming was also supposed to start in October 2025; however, it did not happen, which further added to the rumors regarding Alien: Romulus 2 getting shelved.

Though Alvarez will be the producer of the sequel, he will not direct the movie, unlike the first one. In an interview with HorrorBound Weekend, Fede Alvarez revealed that this project was one of those “things where you come in, and you do one, and get out”. Fede Alvarez’s movie gained $350.9 million at the box office, indicating the widespread success and recognition that the movie was able to achieve.

It is undoubtedly an intriguing aspect considering the movie was initially supposed to be released on the streaming platform Hulu. However, the studio changed the plans and released it in theaters, leading it to become a massive success. Besides this movie, some of Fede Alvarez’s other notable projects include Calls, Don’t Breathe 2, The Girl in the Spider’s Web, Evil Dead, etc.
