Avengers: Doomsday just raised the stakes for the entire MCU multiverse

The hype for Avengers: Doomsday is reaching a fever pitch as the first trailer has finally dropped online. Fans are eagerly waiting for Doomsday, which is gearing for its December release. They are also expecting some other major information about the movie this week at the Hall H Marvel SDCC panel.

Tickets for the movie went on Monday, and ahead of that, Marvel released the official synopsis for the MCU epic. Marketed as the beginning of the end of the Multiverse Saga, the new official synopsis for Avengers: Doomsday confirms that three universes are involved in the main plot of the movie.

Doomsday has been expected to resolve all the disparate and dangling plot threads that have remained unresolved since 2021. Therefore, expectations are high that the upcoming MCU flick will be a grand conclusion of a largely divisive Multiverse Saga. It seems the inclusion of MCU and non-MCU characters like those from the early 2000s X-Men film franchise seems to hint that Doomsday will be grand.

The official synopsis for the upcoming Marvel movie suggests that Avengers: Doomsday will push the envelop when it comes to grandeur. Confirming the involvement of three separate universes, the official synopsis reads:

"Universes collide and the Multiverse Saga begins its final chapter in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday. Beloved heroes from three distinct universes will be set on a deadly collision course and ultimately face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered. This epic film will lay the foundation for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

Describing the incursion of three separate realities as a "collision", it suggests that Marvel is taking a page right out of DC's playbook, but not its movie division, but rather comics.

DC famously cleared its comics' continuity in 1985 with the event comic, "Crisis on Infinite Earths". One of the most iconic moments from that comic is multiple Earths physically colliding together. Marvel is also seemingly doing something similar with Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. It is expected that Marvel might be cleaning up its staggering continuity with these two projects. Doing so also gives Marvel a chance to revisit some divisive projects like Secret Invasion.

The Doomsday trailer hints at the Avengers' biggest threat:

Marvel finally dropped the Doomsday trailer after tickets went online. This release was unexpected, as many believe that it would be released at the SDCC panel. It does hint at the Fantastic Four arriving at Earth-616. We also see Thor requesting the two feuding Avengers factions to reunite to fight their biggest threat: Victor Von Doom. The trailer doesn't show Robert Downey Jr.'s face, but we can hear Doom, and it seems that the character has an Eastern European accent.

But one of the highlights of the trailer is the scene in which Doom blocks Thor's Stormbreaker attack using nothing but his two fingers, hinting at Doom's magical abilities. Marvel also released a poster featuring Victor Von Doom standing on stairs, looking at a large cloth painting of a planet with a woman and a boy over it, surrounded by angels and mythological figures. The woman in the picture might be Cynthia Von Doom, and the boy might be a young Victor.
