Avengers: Doomsday ScreenX trailer reveals that Marvel is taking a page right out of DC's playbook

The ScreenX version of the official D23 Avengers: Doomsday trailer dropped online, and fans noticed several details in the background. Thanks to the expanded screen, there are things in the trailer that were not observable in the past. One such background detail was the presence of red skies in the trailer.

The upcoming Marvel epic has been marketed as the culmination of the Multiverse Saga. The red skies in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer are a reference to DC’s Multiverse storyline, which was also marketed as a culmination: Crisis on Infinite Earths.

The ScreenX Avengers: Doomsday trailer also includes other important details:

In an expanded screen, we can see two or even three Latverian Witches kneeling to Victor von Doom. One of these witches, according to fan theories, is Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff. Wanda hasn’t been seen in the MCU since 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If she is returning to the MCU, fans believe that VisionQuest could be setting up her Doomsday role.

Another subtle moment in the trailer shows Scott Lang embracing his daughter. You can notice that moment at the 53-second mark in the trailer below:

Many fans believe that the apartment observable in the background, now visible in this ScreenX trailer, belongs to Kate Bishop. The closing minutes of The Marvels saw Kamala at Kate Bishop's apartment. Kamala suggests to Kate that they team up.

A leaked artwork from last year even revealed that Kate Bishop and Kamala Khan will appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Therefore, it wouldn’t be surprising if Hailee Steinfeld appears in Doomsday. There is one problem though: Scott and Cassie Lang are in the kitchen of an unknown apartment. It is unclear if the kitchen belongs to Kate Bishop’s apartment or not.

But the most important detail in the new trailer is the skies visible throughout the trailer.

What does the red sky in the Doomsday trailer mean?

The red skies indicate the destruction of the multiverse caused by incursions. This is similar to the red skies that appeared in the DC Comics event, Crisis on Infinite Earths. In the DC comics event, the red sky symbolized the arrival of the antimatter wave, which could destroy an Earth.

Moreover, Avengers: Doomsday might not be the last time the red skies appear in the MCU; the red skies could return in the next movie, Avengers: Secret Wars, which releases next December. This is important because the two upcoming Avengers movies are expected to clean up the MCU continuity, as DC Comics did in the 1980s with Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Doomsday could end with Victor von Doom creating the Battleworld, which is a patchwork of three different Marvel alternate realities. This would make Marvel characters forget about their lives before the Battleworld, setting the stage for Avengers: Secret Wars.

Doomsday could end with a group of survivors managing to escape Doom's rewriting of reality. If that happens, these survivors could be the only ones who have a chance to overthrow Doom and remake the entire Marvel continuity.

This rewriting of reality at the end of Secret Wars could also give Marvel a chance to correct some critically lambasted projects like Secret Invasion and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.
