It seems that the internet can't have enough of Avengers: Doomsday; new theories and rumors continue to circulate about the movie every day. The first chapter at the end of Marvel's Multiverse Saga, Doomsday, might be taking inspiration from Avengers: Infinity War, which famously had a shocking cliffhanger ending. Therefore, Doomsday's surprising ending would set up Avengers: Secret Wars.

We all know that this December's Avengers movie is going to revolve around the collapse of the Marvel multiverse, a plotline set up by Avengers Endgame: Encore. Much like Thanos in Infinity War, Victor von Doom might ultimately win at the end of Avengers: Doomsday. But this time, Doom might have the help of one of the heroes.

Avengers: Doomsday rumor - A hero's betrayal could enable Doom's victory:

A new rumor was posted on X (formerly Twitter) stating that Doomsday will end with one of the heroes siding with Doctor Doom. This revelation, according to this rumor, will be the cliffhanger ending of the Marvel epic. Most of the comments in the post suggested that Stephen Strange would be the one who would betray the Avengers.

One account just posted a gif of Strange using the Time Stone in Infinity War, looking at 14,000,605 possibilities:

On the other hand, another fan suggested Strange as the possible betrayer:

"Yeah, Strange will be the betrayer."

Another fan pointed at a key plotline from the 2015 Secret Wars comic:

Apart from Strange, a fan had another wild candidate for the hero who would betray the Avengers in the movie:

Another X user suggested that Doom's aide could be Wanda. We haven't seen the Scarlet Witch since Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As of now, Wanda has been described as "dead," but fans refuse to believe it. While Wanda could be one of Doom's aides, it is possible that both she and Strange are Doom's aides in Avengers: Doomsday.

Why do fans think that Strange would stand with Doom?

Leaks have revealed that one of Doom's henchmen in the movie is a sorcerer called "Boris." This "Boris" is none other than Doctor Strange.

New rumors have suggested that the character might be cut from the movie, but it should be noted that no official marketing material has supported Boris' role in the first place. But old leaks show Boris' mask having three distinct holes for eyes. The only character with three eyes in the MCU for now is Strange. The post-credit scene of Multiverse of Madness could lead to Strange's arc in Doomsday.

As for Wanda's role, the official Marvel Studios display at SDCC this year included three mysterious costumes with masks, worn by "Latverian Witches" in Avengers: Doomsday. Many fans believe that one of these three witches could be Wanda.

What do we know about the movie?

All the marketing hype around the movie is around the mystery of Victor von Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr. It seems that Doom lost his loved ones to an incursion, and the Latverian ruler is determined to stop the collapse of the Multiverse. But several rumors have suggested that Victor's ultimate aim could be to rewrite reality.

Therefore, Doom could win by creating the Battleworld, setting up the events of Avengers: Secret Wars, which would close the book on the long-winded Multiverse Saga.

Avengers: Doomsday releases on December 18, 2026.
