Avengers: Doomsday trailer's AI usage claims spark social media debacle

Fans were eagerly waiting for the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, which was finally released yesterday, on July 20, 2026. While the trailer did give us a tease of what's coming, fans had a few complaints, as is common for a trailer of this stature.

However, the biggest complaint fans and netizens are expressing online about the trailer is that it seems AI-generated. New reports also allegedly claim that TikTok has flagged the trailer for containing AI-generated content.

Why do fans think the Avengers: Doomsday trailer is AI-generated?

The Avengers: Doomsday trailer has been criticized for multiple reasons, but the reason that stands out is that it seems the trailer is either AI-generated or has used some amount of AI in the production of it. The trailer has also been criticized for not revealing anything about the plot as such, but fans are much more upset over how AI-generated the trailer looks to them.

Now, a report has been going viral online that claims that TikTok has flagged the Avengers: Doomsday with the 'Contains AI-generated media' label. TikTok's AI detection system could be right about this, but it hasn't proved itself to be a system that is always correct. Hence, one should take the report with a grain of salt since we never know which system is correct and which isn't.

Irrespective of whether it's correct or not, viewers online were quick to point out that a lot of the CGI seems either AI-generated or layered with AI-generated content over real content. No one's claiming that the entire trailer is made using AI since most of the appearances of the cast seem genuine. Fans are speculating that the background of the scenes of the Fantastic Four meeting the Wakandans and a few action scenes might have been enhanced using AI.

We as a society are at a sensitive time as far as AI is concerned. AI has not only taken over multiple industries and replaced thousands of human jobs but is also now being used to make films and art. Marvel will most likely not accept or deny the allegations, but if fans continue to think that a company of this stature has used AI in their trailer, it isn't going to be a good look for the company.

If Marvel really has used AI in the Avengers: Doomsday trailer, there might be multiple reasons behind it. It might be because all CGI work isn't completed since the film is still in postproduction, but the first trailer had to be released within a specific window.

Moreover, Disney recently fired over 1000 employees, which included a huge chunk of the visual department of Marvel. That might have pushed out a lot of the creative individuals who made Marvel's CGI stand out. Without them, the company might have resorted to AI if the allegations are true.

As of right now, the allegations against Marvel for using AI in the new Doomsday trailer are just allegations. They haven't been proved to be true, and Marvel hasn't released a statement addressing the issue. The next few trailers of the film will help us understand further if the company has indeed used AI.
