Avengers: Doomsday - Who are the Black Swans? Exploring rumored mysterious cult in upcoming MCU chapter

Marvel's Spanish YouTube channel dropped a new Avengers: Doomsday marketing promo. This was not a teaser that included a scene from the movie, but rather a marketing video featuring David Harbour, Winston Duke, and Anthony Mackie. We already know that the three actors are reprising their MCU roles in the upcoming Avengers movie.

This promo is just a marketing push for the upcoming Avengers movie, which is releasing in exactly two months. In this promo, we see mysterious cloaked figures in the Alcazaba fortress in Málaga, Spain, which is also lit green. Then, Winston Duke, Anthony Mackie, and David Harbour walk into the frame.

The presence of the cloaked figures has made the internet look back at a year-old Avengers: Doomsday rumor.

Avengers: Doomsday - Black Swans might be involved in the MCU movie:

A year ago, rumors were circulating on the internet that Avengers: Doomsday will also feature the Black Swans, a cult of priestesses that worship a mysterious deity called Rabum Alal. Marvel Comics built up the identity of Rabum Alal for a long time, who turned out to be none other than Doctor Doom. He used this cult to find Molecule Man to save the Multiverse in the 2015 Secret Wars event.

Now, the presence of the cloaked figures in the promo suggests that this cult could play a role in the movie. In fact, a year ago, Ana de Armas was rumored to be one of the Black Swan priestesses. However, none of these rumors was ever confirmed by Marvel.

Moreover, Hayley Atwell recently told The Playlist that the Avengers: Doomsday team filmed several scenes and tried out several plotlines, which they dropped. The actress's exact words were:

“So [‘Doomsday’] comes out in December, [and] it’s so epic. It’s so extraordinary, the level of ambition and scope that they had for it, that I knew that whatever we were trying — and we tried different things, we shot different things, there were different storylines, some picked up, some developed, some dropped away."

Atwell further added:

"It really is with the intention of finding the thing that makes the most sense for those characters, but also for what role they play in this part of the world.”

Therefore, even if the Black Swans were a part of Doomsday at one point, they might have been dropped from the movie altogether. Therefore, the cloaked figures we see in the promo could just be nameless followers of Victor von Doom in the movie we will watch in two months.

Moreover, we already know that the upcoming Avengers movie will feature three key characters on Doom's side, and all of them are magic users.

Doom has three followers in Doomsday:

Two weeks ago, Marvel released a new Doomsday poster in which we see Doctor Doom in the forefront, with three cloaked and masked figures in the background. We already know that these three mysterious figures are called "Latverian Witches", as Marvel confirmed their presence at SDCC through the display of the costumes.

Rumors and leaks have suggested that one of these witches is Wanda Maximoff. Apart from the three witches, leaks have also suggested the role of a trusted lieutenant of Doom's, Boris. Boris is also a masked figure, and many believe that it is none other than Doctor Strange.

Fans point at Boris's mask, which has three holes for eyes, and the only three-eyed figure in the MCU is none other than Strange. Therefore, for now it seems that Marvel has already included the most intriguing followers for Doctor Doom in the upcoming Avengers movie.

"'Avengers: Doomsday' follows beloved heroes from three distinct universes as they’re set on a deadly collision course and face an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever encountered."
