Avengers: Doomsday will turn 6 Marvel superheroes narratively useless & with an uncertain fate

Avengers: Doomsday is one of this year's hotly anticipated projects, even if it is releasing the same day as Dune: Part Three. Every day, there are new speculations and theories regarding the MCU movie.

Since Avengers: Doomsday is a multiverse movie, fans continue to speculate about the movie. The speculations range between the cameos that Marvel hasn't confirmed and the characters who may die or even see their role reduced in the MCU after Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

6 character whose importance to the plot in MCU would reduce post Avengers: Doomsday:

Here are some of the possible candidates who will either die or play a small role after Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars:

Ant-Man

Ant-Man is a surprise addition to Avengers: Doomsday since the third movie wasn't that well-received. Apart from Loki, he is the only character who interacted with Jonathan Majors's Kang. Since Marvel would like to distance itself from Kang for a while, it would make sense to kill off Scott Lang, who has been a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for over a decade. If not killing, Lang could also pass on the Ant-Man title to his daughter, setting up the Young Avengers project.

Bucky

Sebastian Stan's Bucky Barnes is one of the most obvious candidates for MCU characters who might meet their end in Avengers: Doomsday. Stan had made his MCU debut alongside Chris Evans in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger. So, it will make sense for the Russos to kill Bucky, a character with a long-standing legacy in the MCU.

It should also be noted that Sebastian Stan is joining the DC Elseworlds universe through The Batman: Part II, which is releasing in 2028. Rumors suggest that he is one of the villains in that movie, but his DC commitments could mean that he no longer is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Thor

Thor's days in the MCU are numbered because the God of Thunder has gone through it all during tenure in the MCU. Furthermore, former Disney CEO Bob Iger had famously questioned the need to give characters third or fourth solo movies in March 2023:

"What we have to look at at Marvel is not necessarily the volume of Marvel stories we're telling, but how many times we go back to the well on certain characters. Sequels typically work well for us. Do you need a third and a fourth, for instance, or is it time to turn to other characters?"

While the former Disney boss did not name any particular franchise, he was clearly referring to 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder and 2023's Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. This quote is the most likely reason that Thor could meet his end in Doomsday, given Chris Hemsworth has been a part of the MCU for nearly fifteen years.

Gambit

Channing Tatum was cast as Gambit back in 2014 for a solo movie in the X-Men franchise, which never happened. But he made his debut a decade later in Deadpool & Wolverine, where they joke about the solo movie languishing in development hell. Tatum is 46 years old, which is why he may have had only two appearances in the MCU, one being Deadpool & Wolverine and the other being Avengers: Doomsday.

He would not be the only mutant to die in the movie, though. Speaking of which:

The rest of the X-Men

A recurring joke on the internet is the screentime allotted to Sir Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier/Professor X. That's because Stewart's Professor X has died three times on the big screen: X3: The Last Stand, Logan, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Avengers: Doomsday might be the fourth time we may see the British actor's version of the character die on the big screen.

Also, this version of the iconic mutant team will definitely die because the MCU Professor X, Cyclops, and other X-Men have already been cast for the 2028 Jake Schreier movie.

Loki

The Loki Season 2 finale ended with the God of Mischief becoming the God of Stories. The series ended with him saving the collapsing multiverse by reforming all of reality in the form of Yggdrasil, the mythical tree. But many fans are theorizing that Victor Von Doom would overthrow Loki by the end of Doomsday and form the Battleworld, setting up Avengers: Secret Wars.
