Avengers Endgame: Encore post-credit scene draws parallel between Dr. Doom & Tony Stark adding fuel to this popular fan theory

Scenes from Avengers Endgame: Encore have made their way online. We now know what the new footage looks like. However, one of the biggest additions to the new version of Endgame is the post-credit scene, which sets up Doctor Doom in the MCU. If you remember, the original 2019 version of Endgame did not have a post-credit scene.

The original version of Endgame instead honored the character of Tony Stark by adding metal clanking sounds. However, as you catch Avengers Endgame: Encore this weekend in theaters, you will get a new post-credit scene that will reignite a fan debate that has been raging since the day Robert Downey Jr. was announced to play Dr. Doom: "Is Dr. Doom a Tony Stark variant".

What happens in the new Avengers Endgame: Encore post-credit scene?

The Avengers Endgame: Encore post-credit scene expands upon the metal clanking sound from the closing credits of the 2019 movie. Encore reveals that the metal clanking sounds are that of Dr. Doom creating his metallic mask. This scene is staged in a way that is similar to Tony Stark creating the Iron Man mask for the first armor in the cave, where he is held captive in the 2008 movie.

This leaked post-credit scene will surely add fuel to the debate that Avengers: Doomsday's Victor von Doom is a Tony Stark variant. However, Marvel has not officially confirmed that Doom is somehow a variant of the MCU Tony Stark we followed between 2008 and 2019. All that Anthony Russo confirmed last March was that Tony Stark's snap in Avengers: Endgame will play a role in Doomsday:

“We can’t explain that as it’s part of the story. But there’s nobody else in the world who could play this character the way he’s about to.”

Encore could explain how Tony Stark's snap to wipe out Thanos and his forces will tie into Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. Apart from clarifying Doom's role, the new version of Avengers: Endgame also sets up the return of Mark Ruffalo's Hulk and an incursion between Earth-10005 (The one from the 2000s X-Men franchise) and Earth-1127 (a mysterious Earth we haven't seen yet).

What do we know about Avengers Endgame: Encore?

Announced last year, this new version of Endgame bridges the 2019 movie with Avengers: Doomsday. One of the pivotal scenes in Avengers Endgame: Encore is Loki interrupting Steve and Peggy's dance, and offering the couple a chance to relocate (probably to a different Earth). Fan theories posit that Loki relocates Steve Rogers and his family to Earth-828.

Other than the Loki scene, one of the mid-credit scenes also features Doom abducting Bruce Banner from an underground bunker. This scene is set after the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where the Savage Hulk resurfaces. This scene confirms that Hulk is appearing in Avengers: Doomsday.
