Avengers: Endgame has once again become the top-earning film in global box office history ahead of the release of the next Avengers installment, Doomsday. Avatar once held a record box office gross of $2.923 billion globally. Variety mentioned that Endgame had crossed the record of James Cameron's film by $0.002 billion.

These two blockbuster films have exchanged the number one position several times, and each time they returned to theaters for special releases. Last time, Endgame returned to theaters for a special release with the title Avengers: Endgame Encore. The special release helped Marvel gain the attention of viewers before the launch of the next Avengers film.

After Avatar had held the number one position for ten years, Endgame finally passed it in 2019 during its first theatrical run. Later, the MCU movie dropped to second place in 2021 when Avatar returned to theaters before the release of Avatar: The Way of Water. Five years after that, the Avengers once again moved ahead of the Na'vi.

Disney is celebrating either way because both Endgame and Avatar belong to its top library list. Avatar was originally released by 20th Century Fox, but later the movie became part of Disney after the 2019 merger. Currently, Disney controls seven of the ten highest-grossing films in the world with the addition of Fox's movie catalog.

The list includes Avatar: The Way of Water with $2.33 billion, Spider-Man: Brand New Day with $2.45 billion, and Avengers: Infinity War with $2.05 billion. However, the latest update from Variety and Deadline revealed that Avengers: Endgame crossed every film in the list and broke the record of Avatar, which was holding second place with $2.923 billion.

It's good news that, before the release of Doomsday, the Avengers have once again proved that they are no less successful than Avatar. Deadline mentioned that it all happened due to the re-release of the Anthony and Joe Russo-directed film, which was positioned as a lead-up to their upcoming Avengers: Doomsday multiverse movie scheduled for December 18, 2026.

Marvel fans already know that the franchise is bringing back almost every hero in the galaxy, which will be revealed in the upcoming Doomsday film. The re-release of Endgame had already earned more than $126 million worldwide, and theater owners are now excited for the next Avengers installment. People are expecting the upcoming Avengers movie to be one of the biggest films of the year.

The MCU remains the most successful film franchise in history. After the success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day with $2.5 billion, the franchise has now made a total of $35.07 billion across all its movies.
