Clinical and forensic psychologist Dr. John Paul Garrison (or Dr. G) reportedly explained why Donald Trump struggled to stay awake during the election speech. He revealed in a video that the president fell asleep while standing up. Dr. G mentioned,
"He seems barely conscious at this point."
Dr. G further explained that it was concerning because he fell asleep while still standing. The doctor said the fact that the president could wake up again so quickly suggested that there might be a problem with the system that controls alertness and wakefulness. According to the forensic psychologist, the brain pathways that help keep a person awake might not have been working properly at that moment, which indicated that something unusual was affecting the president.

Dr. G unfolded Donald Trump's sleep issues during the speech
Dr. Garrison called Donald Trump 'barely conscious' after watching the president fall asleep while standing in one of Trump's speech videos. Dr. G said,
"Just look at the way he's clapping. He seems barely conscious at this point."
Dr. G added,
"He continues to fall asleep over and over again throughout the rest of Doug Burgum speaking."
According to The Independent, CNN medical analyst Dr. Jonathan Reiner appeared on Kate Bolduan's show to discuss the president's fitness for office before Trump visited Walter Reed Medical Centre for his second medical check-up since October. Dr. Jonathan outlined what he described as several serious concerns. He also suggested that the White House might not have been fully open about the situation.
Donald Trump's sleep issues explored: What the experts are saying
Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a professor at George Washington University's School of Medicine and longtime cardiologist for former Vice President Dick Cheney, described the president's sleep as a serious concern. According to The Independent, Dr. Jonathan said,
"The president has severe daytime somnolence. He falls asleep very often. He’s fallen asleep in the Oval Office on multiple occasions with people talking to him in the cabinet room."
Dr. Jonathan explained that chronic insomnia is a serious medical condition that can raise the risk of dementia and lead to a decline in thinking and memory abilities, especially in older adults.
Over the past years, the president had been spotted sleeping many times during official events, briefly closing his eyes for 10-15 seconds. One such moment was reported during a National Guard briefing in March.
Dr. Jonathan mentioned that the issue was serious because the president appeared to have difficulty staying awake during the day. He added that he wanted the White House to explain what evaluations had been carried out to determine the cause of the president's increased daytime sleepiness and what steps were being taken to address the problem.
