Game Science has released a 15-minute gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, giving gamers their first look at the game. It is the second game in the series, followed by Black Myth: Wukong.
The trailer gives a look at another epic mythological tale, featuring the new protagonist based on Chinese folklore, Zhong Kui, the legendary demon-slaying figure, showing his smooth fighting style and battles with mythological creatures.
As explained on the Black Myth website, Zhong Kui's story goes back to the Tang Dynasty, when he was a brilliant scholar. After being rejected by the emperor because of his appearance, he died after hitting his head against a pillar in the place. After his death, Zhong Kui appeared in the emperor's dream and saved him from ghosts. He was later given the task of protecting people from evil spirits.
His unusual life story later made him a famous name in Chinese culture, with his legend appearing in books, plays, art, and traditional tales.
More on the story below.
What does the new Black Myth: Zhong Kui gameplay reveal?

Black Myth: Zhong Kui opens with scenic green landscapes before the protagonist appears in white with a sword on his back. He is seen building a raft and using it in rough weather and later carrying a man. Within three minutes, the viewers can see the fighting scenes on the land as well as underground water scenes, which just adds to its visuals. The game's fights mainly use swordplay, as shown in the trailer.
Viewers will see fast sword moves and precise dodges and blocks while fighting a group of enemies and mythological creatures. Additionally, two bars are also given on the lower side of the screen to track the health as the protagonist fights.
Towards the second half of the trailer, he fights another large creature who has giant clams on his back. As the fights continue, the protagonist breaks the clams, which shows the gamers can break them as part of the gameplay.
Overall, the gameplay trailer includes aggressive fight scenes, showing the combat skills the character possesses. Towards the end of the trailer, there are multiple shots combined in different environments and surroundings showing the protagonist fighting different creatures. In one scene, he is also seen playing a guqin with a group of skeleton creatures.
However, it's important to note that this is not the final release, as according to Game Science, the development of the game is still ongoing, and the footage of the fifteen-minute gameplay trailer has been recorded from an early build of the game in a 21:9 format.
According to co-founder Feng Ji, the team first planned to make DLC for Black Myth: Wukong. And after the game's release, the team also spent around half a year planning the DLC and working on its story and ideas.
However, Yang Qi later suggested making a new game, and Feng Ji agreed. They eventually convinced the other members of the team to start working on a new game in the series instead of the DLC. The game is a single-player action role-playing game.
