Candace Owens said she had been dismissed from the defamation case brought by French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, while reiterating that she was not sued simply for saying “Brigitte Macron was born a male.”

In a post on X on October 27, 2026, Owens described the lawsuit as an attempt by a foreign leader to financially ruin an independent podcaster. Owens said reporters had “willfully lied” about what the lawsuit concerned.

"And to formally reiterate since many reporters willfully lied about this most important detail: I was NEVER being sued for stating that Brigitte Macron was born a male. I was instead being sued for discussing MK Ultra and for allegedly accusing the “First Lady” of theft from her sister."

These are Owens’s characterisations of the lawsuit, rather than findings established by the court’s latest ruling. The statement followed a Delaware judge’s decision to dismiss claims against Owens individually, while allowing the case against two companies associated with her to continue.

Reuters reported on October 27, 2026 that the judge found the court lacked jurisdiction over Owens, who lives in Tennessee. The ruling narrows the case but does not end the legal dispute.

More about the lawsuit against Candace Owens

The lawsuit, filed in Delaware in July 2025, concerned a broader set of claims about the French presidential couple. NPR reported on July 24, 2025, that Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron accused Candace Owens of spreading what they called “grotesque lies” through her podcast series Becoming Brigitte.

The allegations cited in the complaint included claims about Brigitte Macron’s gender, that the couple were blood relatives, and that Emmanuel Macron had been involved in a CIA mind-control experiment. The Macrons sought to hold Owens accountable for what they described as defamatory statements.

NPR also reported that the couple’s lawyer, Tom Clare, said the legal action followed repeated attempts to obtain a retraction. According to Clare, the legal team had contacted Owens multiple times over the preceding year and shared documents at her request.

A spokesperson for Candace Owens told NPR in July 2025 that the lawsuit amounted to a foreign government attacking the First Amendment rights of an American independent journalist.

What the Delaware judge’s ruling means for the Macron lawsuit

Reuters reported on October 28, 2026, that Delaware Superior Court Judge Sheldon Rennie ruled the court did not have personal jurisdiction over Candace Owens, who resides in Tennessee.

The judge dismissed the claims against her individually, but allowed the lawsuit against Candace Owens LLC and GeorgeTom Inc. to continue for now because both companies are registered in Delaware.

The ruling did not decide whether Owens or her companies were liable for defamation. Forbes reported on October 28, 2026, that the judge also sided with Owens’s argument that French law should determine the applicable statute of limitations, given that the Macrons alleged the most significant reputational harm occurred in France.

The court has requested further arguments from both sides on whether France’s three-month filing deadline or a special one-year extension applies. If the shorter deadline is found to govern the claims, the entire lawsuit could be dismissed, Forbes reported.

Candace Owens welcomed the ruling in her X post, thanking the Delaware courts and the presiding judge for examining the case objectively. She called the lawsuit “one of the grossest, legal overreaches by a foreign government leader in human history.” The claims against her two companies remain unresolved, and the judge has not issued a final decision on the statute-of-limitations question.
