David Harbour's cryptic Avengers: Doomsday line has raised eyebrows among Marvel fans. In a recent interview with Variety, when asked to recite a line from Avengers: Doomsday without giving away the context, Harbour answered in a Russian accent:
"You … are Tony Stark."
While the line might seem simple, it could carry a much bigger meaning than it appears. David Harbour's recent line, by the way he delivered it, seems to be like someone in Doomsday or his character Red Guardian believes they are looking at Tony Stark.
However, there is also a chance that Harbour simply made up the line during his interview with Variety to not give out any important details about the movie. And since Robert Downey Jr. played Tony Stark and will now appear as Doctor Doom, it seemed like the safest choice.
What David Harbour's Tony Stark line could mean for Avengers: Doomsday?

Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., died in Avengers: Endgame, sacrificing himself to wipe out Thanos and his army. In 2024, Marvel revealed that Robert Downey Jr., who played Iron Man in the past, will be playing Doctor Doom in the upcoming Marvel movies, Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The recently released special look of Doomsday gave more details about his character and his powers.

Alongside the other characters in the movie, Marvel fans will also see Stranger Things and Thunderbolts* star David Harbour as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian. The actor, during the interview with Variety, shared one short line from the movie, which unexpectedly mentioned Tony Stark.
However, it is interesting to note that Red Guardian has never interacted with Tony Stark, so his saying this line, "You … are Tony Stark," either means that Red Guardian has interacted with an unmasked Doctor Doom, or viewers could see another variant of Tony Stark in the upcoming movie.
Although it is too early to draw any conclusions from the line said by Harbour, as he was asked to say it completely out of context. Additionally, he has not revealed any information about who says the line that mentions Tony Stark or who the line is directed at, which leaves plenty of possibilities and does not necessarily mean that Red Guardian is speaking to any of Robert Downey Jr.'s characters, Tony Stark or Doctor Doom. Still, the fact that the line specifically mentions Tony Stark makes it an interesting tease.
Additionally, Doctor Doom is usually seen wearing his mask, and it is still unclear whether he will remove it in Avengers: Doomsday. However, Harbour's line could suggest that Doom might eventually reveal his face, especially since the line appears to identify someone as Tony Stark. As of now, this is just speculation. Another theory is that Tony Stark could somehow return, although that seems unlikely given his death in Avengers: Endgame.
Whatever the truth might be, Harbour's cryptic line has certainly added more mystery around Avengers: Doomsday and opened up new possibilities for the storyline. Marvel fans will have to wait until the movie arrives in theaters on December 18 to know what it really means.
