Diddy, aka Sean John Combs, has been in prison since October 2025. The rapper and record producer was first arrested on September 16, 2024 on charges that included sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, among others.

He faced a jury trial in 2025, which ended with him being sentenced to 50 months in prison. That 50-month period has been reduced several times, moving up his release date as a result. Now, as TMZ reports, according to the Bureau of Prisons, his release date has been moved up to February 5, 2028.

Why has Diddy's prison release date been moved up again?

Sean Combs faced his jury trial in 2025, where he was charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, coercion, and transportation to engage in prostitution. However, he wasn't found guilty of all these charges at the end of the trial. After the 8-week trial concluded, Diddy was convicted of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution under the federal Mann Act.

If he were to be convicted of all the charges against him, Combs could face up to almost a decade in jail. However, as he was acquitted of the heavier charges against him, he was sentenced to 50 months in prison. Interestingly, that 50-month period was reduced by 13 months because of the time he had served in detention before his trial.

His sentence was further reduced because of the standard federal Good Conduct Time. The Good Conduct Time allows an inmate's real expected time in prison to drop from 50 months to roughly 42.5 months (85% of the total sentence). Thus, Diddy eventually had to serve approximately 29.5 months.

While the jury did not find Combs guilty of his heavier charges, netizens believed he deserved more prison time. Alas, he was finally supposed to serve the reduced number of months in prison and his initial projected release date was set for May/June 2028. However, that has been moving up.

The projected release date changed from June 2028 to April 2028 and then even March 2028. Now, as TMZ reports, the projected release date has been moved up to February 5, 2028. Diddy will probably be released approximately four months before his initial set release date.

This change isn't completely unusual. Changes in prison release dates occur when there are changes in administration or when the inmate gets credit for good conduct and discipline. However, Combs' record in prison isn't exactly clean. In July 2026, he got into a fight with another inmate and was placed in solitary confinement as punishment.

Such an altercation isn't a sign of good conduct; it is a sign of the exact opposite. Thus, it is strange that Diddy's prison release date is being moved up despite the altercation. An exact reason behind this specific change in his release date hasn't been revealed yet.

Most of the public wasn't happy when Diddy was acquitted of his heavier charges. They felt that he deserved to serve more time. The change in his prison release date has thus been looked down upon by netizens who believe Diddy had committed more crimes than he was convicted of.

Given how many times his prison release date has been changed so far, we can see it getting changed more times in the future. As of now, Combs is serving his prison sentence at Federal Correctional Institution, Fort Dix, New Jersey.
