According to TMZ, a Cornell fraternity brothers’ attorney, Jeremy Saland, has accused the University of mishandling its internal investigation back in 2025.The Cornell 7 case came to light after the accuser, identified as Jane Doe in court documents, filed a lawsuit against the University, the Delta Delta Delta sorority, and the Chi Phi fraternity in September 2026 for failing to protect her after she was s*xually assaulted by seven men of the fraternity in October 2024. Jane Doe claims that she was dr*gged with ketamine and s*xually assaulted by several of the Cornell fraternity brothers in 2024.The accusation led the University to open a Title IX internal investigation, which concluded that the accused had attempted the alleged assault. Now, Saland has accused the University of mishandling the investigation. An alleged email between Saland and the University, acquired by TMZ, reads:“Whether by the hand or word of President Donald Trump or Cornell University, appearing to do what is right when you know that is not, is always wrong. Do better. Shame on you all.”Cornell fraternity brothers’ attorney allegedly accused the University of mishandling its internal investigationAccording to BBC News, Jane Doe reported the alleged s*xual assault to the University after two weeks, which led to the Title IX investigation. The University's internal police department and Office of Civil Rights conducted a multi-month investigation between January and May 2025, with at least 12 hearings. Now, one of the accused Cornell fraternity brothers’ attorneys has allegedly accused the panel of mishandling the internal investigation. According to TMZ's report, Saland's alleged email revealed that one of the panel members, who had decided the fate of his client, was driving and distracted during the testimony. The attorney also revealed that his request to reschedule the hearing was overlooked. Check out Saland's reported comments about the University:"I cannot help but wonder whether this misconduct and disregard is common at your esteemed and respected Ivy League institution and whether the same warrants greater investigation."In another email, the Cornell fraternity brothers’ attorney called out the panel's 'lack of professionalism' and revealed that their mishandling of the case will not be 'ignored':“Sadly, for Cornell, whether [redacted] is responsible or not, the esteemed Ivy League university’s failings will not be ignored. No student should be subject to such a lack of professionalism. After all, Cornell should be setting the bar, not lowering it in a sinister game of limbo.”Reportedly, the University panel concluded that Jane Doe was s*xually assaulted by the Cornell fraternity brothers, who were expelled, and the Chi Phi fraternity was closed and permanently barred from campus. According to PBS, the others, who were found responsible for lesser infractions, were given lighter punishment, including mandatory self-reflecting essays, disciplinary probation and no contact with the accuser.Following Jane Doe's lawsuit against the University, Cornell has refuted the accuser's allegations, maintaining that the panel subjected the guilty Cornell fraternity brothers to adequate punishment, including suspensions and expulsions.According to BBC News, Tompkins County District Attorney Matthew Van Houten has reopened the Cornell fraternity brothers' case and promised that it will be prosecuted by the most objective and impartial means possible. For the latest scoops on your favorite TV shows and movies, follow SoapCentral.
