Avengers: Doomsday is going to be released in theaters on December 18, 2026, but fans have been guessing the film's storyline since the film was first announced in 2025. Not much has been officially confirmed by Marvel except the cast and characters we can expect to see in the film.

A rumored story has now surfaced online that claims to be the actual plot of Avengers: Doomsday. If that is true, the Avengers and all others heroes might be facing something they never saw coming.

Could Steve Rogers going back in time lead to the destruction of the multiverse in Avengers: Doomsday?

According to the rumors and speculations online, Avengers: Doomsday will begin with the destruction of the universe of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man. Peter 2's universe will be on a collision course with what reports claim is the Fox X-Men universe, and the only way to save it will be to destroy Peter 2's universe.

Deadpool and Wolverine will thus go there with a bomb that kills planets. While Peter 2 will fight Wolverine and do his best to save his universe, Wolverine will trigger the bomb, killing himself and Peter 2 and destroying his reality.

Avengers: Doomsday will then reportedly show us that when Steve Rogers decided to go back in time to be with Peggy Carter, he created a timeline anomaly. Anomalies can cause multiple universes to collide. There was thus a risk of him being removed by a TVA pruning to protect the timeline. A Loki variant had hidden the Rogers family in the Fantastic Four's universe to make sure they stayed off the grid.

In Avengers: Doomsday, we will reportedly see the Fantastic Four's universe at risk of getting destroyed as well. Doctor Doom will approach the Richards to warn them of what's coming and then ask Reed to scan and find out if there are any anomalies in his universe. Upon scanning, they will realize that Steve Rogers is in their universe.

Doctor Doom and the Richards (themselves convinced by Doom) will then convince Steve to go back to Earth 616 Avengers and unite the Avengers for what's coming. Steve will go back, and unite the Avengers and Doom will earn the trust of the Avengers solely because Steve wil vouch for him.

Doctor Doom will then arrive at Earth 616 as a savior and convince the Avengers to build a series of cosmic cannons across different realities because he claims that they will stop the collisions. In reality, these devices are designed to speed up the eventual collision of the universes.

In the Fox X-Men universe, while the X-Men initially will be initially hesitant to trust Doctor Doom, they will eventually trust him and agree to work with him, the Fantastic Four, and the Avengers. Steve will then soon realize that Doctor Doom killed Loki and took his power over the timelines.

When Steve confronts Doom, he reveals that Steve's presence in the Fantastic Four's universe created an anomaly that triggered the first collision. Doom initially wanted to stop it, but an experiment of his went bad, killing his wife and son and leaving him physically scarred.

Doctor Doom will finally reveal that everything he has done, including sending the heroes with the cosmic canon devices to other realities, has been an act of revenge against Steve and the Avengers. He will then also kill Steve's son to hurt him more. While the remaining X-Men, Avengers, Fantastic Four, and an army from Valhala (sent by Odin) will try to defeat Doctor Doom, the cosmic cannons will trigger the ultimate destruction of the multiverse, killing everything and everyone.

After every universe gets destroyed, Doctor Doom will use his powers to create one new universe called Battlefield. He will bring back all the heroes to life but without any of their memories and will rule Battlefield as its emperor.

Much like Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Doomsday will reportedly end with the villain winning. Avengers: Secret Wars will thus reportedly show us how the heroes regain their memories and restore the multiverse. While this rumored story does hold weight and hypothetically could be extremely similar to that of the film, there are some plot holes.

The story doesn't mention Wakanda, Shuri, or Namor, which is strange because Avengers: Doomsday teasers have made it clear that the Wakandans and the Talokanil will play an important role in the film. Moreover, the story is too long with too much going on for it to be fit into one film.

Also, while the story is concrete, it sounds a bit too much like Infinity War, where most of the heroes died. It is unlikely that Marvel will go down that same road. No part of the rumored story has been confirmed by Marvel so far and is thus speculation.

Stay tuned for more updates.
