Donald Trump calls White House a "Dump", credits himself for fixing it up in "spare time"

The White House has been undergoing changes, with U.S. President Donald Trump now sharing more details about the work. Taking to Truth Social, he stated that the White House was in poor shape, both inside and outside, calling it:

"Dump"

He further added that past presidents had not taken proper care of the building while praising the Department of the Interior and various contractors for the work being done, adding:

"I love renovating it during my spare time, which is not much."

In the same social media post, Trump also shared before-and-after images showing the changes made to the White House. According to the White House website, many big changes and events have taken place at the White House in recent years. These include renovations to the Oval Office and East Wing, along with UFC Freedom 250 on the South Lawn in 2026.

Donald Trump shares before-and-after images of White House renovations

In his Truth Social post, Trump stated that the White House was in "bad" condition, mentioning that past presidents had not taken proper care of the building and that he had been working on renovating it in his "spare time."

He further stated that the Department of the Interior and contractors were doing a "fantastic job," while also sharing before-and-after pictures showing the work carried out at the White House.

The photos showed the condition of the White House's exterior before and after the renovation work, including its large columns.

Speaking of the same, Trump said in his post that the exterior "skin" of the building was "practically falling off," adding that the White House is now in better condition than when it was built in 1792. Trump also said he was honored to help protect the historic building and claimed that waiting any longer to repair it could have "destroyed" the White House.

Trump, in another post on Truth Social, shared the rendered image of the Ballroom at the White House, calling it "magnificent." He described the project as very expensive but said it would not cost American taxpayers anything. Additionally, he said the work was staying within its budget and moving ahead of schedule.

In another post, Donald Trump shared more images of the White House ballroom and stated that he believes it will be the "greatest of its kind anywhere in the world." He further continued that the new ballroom was being given as a gift to the U.S. by him and other American supporters, adding that no taxpayer money would be used to build it. The Mirror reported that the ballroom project is expected to cost around $400 million.

Donald Trump returned to power as the U.S. president in January 2025, after winning the 2024 presidential election. However, this was not his first time in the White House, as Trump had previously served as U.S. president from 2017 to 2021 before returning to the office for his second term last year.

As reported by The Mirror, Trump has made many changes to the White House, including adding gold-colored decorations to the Oval Office, replacing parts of the walkways with granite, planning a new helipad on the lawn, and changing the Rose Garden.
