Dune: Part Three is going to be released in 4 months, and a new clip has revealed something many fans have been waiting for. The new teaser gives us the first look at Edric, a Spacing Guild Navigator who is an antagonist in Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah, which has been adapted in Dune: Part Three.
The teaser not only confirms that Edric is going to be in the film but also shows him foretelling the ending. We also get a glimpse at a few more new shots, which has increased fans' excitement about the film even more.
Dune: Part Three confirms Edric's apperance
In Dune Messiah, Edric is a third-class Spacing Guild Navigator. Earlier trailers and cast announcements had not confirmed if the character would appear in Dune: Part Three, but the new teaser does. In the novel, Edric is an antagonist who is heavily mutated from continuous exposure to orange spice gas.
He also uses his own limited prescience to block Emperor Paul Atreides from seeing a secret plan made by the Guild, Bene Gesserit, and Tleilaxu to topple the empire and assasinate him. Edric is thus an extremely important character from the book, and the new teaser finally confirms that we're going to see him in Dune: Part Three. It is yet to be released who plays or voices the character in the film.
We don't see a lot of him in the teaser except for one small scene. The new teaser shows Princess Irulan asking Edric
"Tell me what lies ahead."
to which Edric says,
"The end."
Since Edric bathes in huge amounts of spice melange, it gives him limited oracular vision so that he can guide giant ships safely through space. This ability doesn't let him see everything in the future, but as he tells Princess Irulan, the end is coming; what it is, however, is yet to be seen. He could be talking about the end of Paul's rule since he would eventually be blinded and then later stabbed to death, but Edric's foretelling might mean something more too.
Besides the first look at Edric, we also see new footage of Paul and Chani facing each other in what looks like a confrontation. In the books, Chani was always by Paul's side, devoted to him and his rule. However, in the films, Chani has walked away from Paul once, and we can expect them on opposite sides in Dune: Part Three.
We also see Chani terrified of an oncoming sandworm. In an earlier trailer, it appeared that the sandworm might stop and calm down in front of Chani, but that is yet to be confirmed.
Dune: Part Three will be released in theaters on December 18, 2026.
