According to TMZ, Austin-based tech entrepreneur Adam Robinson and his family were among the nine people aboard the private Learjet 60, which crashed in Palm Beach County, Florida, on Sunday, resulting in their deaths.

A day after the tragedy, an eerie post by Robinson on X has resurfaced and is going viral on social media. The X post, dated April 17, 2026, has 4.4M views and reads as follows:

"You don't need to crash a plane to learn to fly ... and you don't need VC to build a business."

While Adam Robinson’s X post sheds light on his strategy of bootstrapping businesses rather than pursuing venture capital, the striking coincidence and the plane analogy have stunned people. Following news of the tragic plane crash, people are revisiting Robinson's post on X, calling it 'eerie' and truly 'heartbreaking.'

Tech entrepreneur Adam Robinson advocated for bootstrapping over venture capital

Adam Robinson was the founder and CEO of two bootstrapped companies: Retention, an email identification platform for e-commerce, and RB2B, a B2B visitor identification tool. Before his businesses, Robinson worked on Wall Street at Lehman Brothers and Barclays Capital.

The late tech entrepreneur aggressively avoided institutional Venture Capital funding, choosing instead to grow lean and self-funded companies to retain full ownership and control. Robinson actively shared his experiences and advice on X and LinkedIn on growing small companies into successful businesses without outside investment.

Adam Robinson's April 2026 X post is another example of how the tech entrepreneur shared his advice and business strategy on social media. But his words have found a new meaning following the deadly plane crash that claimed his and his family's lives.

What happened in the Florida plane crash?

According to TMZ and Hindustan Times, Adam Robinson, his wife, Helen Sharp, their two children, Emma and Charlie, their nanny, Anita Maria Apellido Cetina, family friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr, and two pilots, Jeff Gregory and Nathalia Gadelha, were aboard the Learjet 60 that went down in Florida on Sunday.

The flight departed Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and was headed to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Reportedly, the crew reported minor turbulence at about 35,000 feet. Moments later, reports indicated an overspeed condition and a crash near Military Trail in Greenacres, Palm Beach County, which triggered a fire that claimed all nine lives.

Following Adam Robinson and his family's tragic passing, Retention and RB2B shared a statement:

"We are heartbroken by the loss of Adam Robinson, our CEO and co-founder, his wife Helen and their two young children, who died in a tragic plane crash in Palm Beach County, Florida, on November 1, 2026."

Robinson's family issued the following statement after the tragedy:

"Adam and Helen were devoted parents, and Emma, 4, and Charlie, 2, were the light of their lives. Helen and Adam were the love affair that will last forever. Their warmth, generosity and gift for making people feel welcome touched so many lives. Their loss will be felt deeply by all those who loved them and who they loved in return."
