Fast & Furious 11, also known as Fast Forever, is the forthcoming action thriller film. It is a sequel to 2023's Fast X and is touted as the last installment in the franchise. Universal Pictures will be releasing it on March 17, 2028.

The film is directed by Louis Leterrier, with Christina Hodson and Oren Uziel penning the screenplay. It will bring to a close a franchise that has spanned over two decades.

Let's explore all the available details about this upcoming film. Fans of the franchise are reportedly excited to see their favorite characters for one last time.

Fast & Furious 11 to release in 2028

Fast & Furious 11 will be released by Universal Pictures on March 17, 2028. Also known as Fast Forever, the film is being directed by Louis Letterier. He had also helmed the previous installment, Fast X. Oren Uziel and Christina Hodson have written the screenplay. Vin Diesel will be returning as Dominic Toretto. He had earlier said that the film would “return to the car culture, to the street racing.”

Diesel announced the news by sharing a still of himself with Paul Walker from the second film. The caption read,

"No one said the road would be easy, but it’s ours. One that has defined us and become our legacy. And a legacy… lasts Forever. March 17th 2028! FAST FOREVER".

Fast & Furious 11 will be the 11th and final installment in the franchise. It began in the year 2001 with The Fast and the Furious. The film was directed by Rob Cohen and was released in 2001. Its success led to a sequel titled 2 Fast 2 Furious. The franchise pivoted towards action and heist with 2011's Fast Five. The franchise has grossed around $7 billion at the box office. A spin-off titled Hobbs & Shaw was released in 2019.

The previous film, Fast X, ended on a cliffhanger. In an interview with Business Insider, Louis Leterrier spoke about the ending and the future of the franchise.

"When I came on board, the cliffhanger was there and I knew it, but I was like, it's hard for us to do just a cliffhanger if we don't know where the movie ends. Let's really go to the end of the franchise and then make our way backward. So that's what we did. If and when you see it again, there are many, many, many instances that are prepping you for this very end, or at least what's going to evolve. Listen to everything that's being said. Every line. Every prop. Stuff I cut away to. You'll understand."

He also revealed his conversation with Justin Lin and Diesel about concluding the franchise with Fast & Furious 11.

"They've known where this is ending for a long time. That's why these movies are working well. They don't feel like they're one chapter at a time. It's really thought out now to the point they're confident enough, writing-wise, that they can end on the cliffhanger. We know where we're going next time and we believe that the fans will follow."

Fast & Furious 11 will release on March 17, 2028.
