Finding Emily: Angourie Rice and Spike Fearn team up for a frenzied campus journey as Universal drops trailer for upcoming rom-com

Finding Emily will give Angourice Rice and Spike Fern an exciting new project to team up for a crazy campus journey in the new British rom-com. As fans wait for the film's premiere, Universal has dropped a new trailer that brings more anticipation.

The trailer runs for 2 minutes and 30 seconds and starts with the lines that perfectly sum up the tone for the upcoming title:

"Last night I met this girl called Emily"

Finding Emily gets an exciting new trailer from Universal

Finding Emily will be led by Angourie Rice, who previously featured in the Apple TV series titled The Last Thing He Told Me (2023). She will play Emily, who is a highly driven psychology student.

She will cross paths with Owen, played by Spike Fearn. Fern plays a fun-loving, chaotic musician whose mistaken phone number leads to a classic rom-com story plot.

Rice has previously been part of the Spider-Man series, featuring in three major movies from the MCU: Spider-Man: Homecoming, followed by Spider-Man: Far From Home and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Rice is expected to bring a signature warmth and intelligence to the role. Fearn also tries a different, softer, character-led performance in this film. Supporting cast members include Amber Grappy, seen in newly released behind-the-scenes images.

Finding Emily is a significant new entry of 2026 for multiple reasons. Other than Fearn and Rice teaming up, it is the first directorial project for Alicia MacDonald. She has been a part of Pure, Flack, and The Outlaws, titles that already tell about her capacity on screen.

The screenplay is written by Rachel Hirons, who has also written many promising projects previously. He was a part of A Guide to Second Date Sex, Powder Room. He is known for a voice that is well-suited to awkward, contemporary romance. Young audiences, especially, are expected to relate deeply to the rom-com.

Given Focus Features’ typical release pattern, the film is expected to debut exclusively in cinemas before moving to digital and streaming at a later, unconfirmed date.

The trailer indicated that the film will take a fun route where Fearn will be seen searching for Emily. He is apparently speaking to the authority on campus, saying,

"I am looking for a student named Emily"

The logline reads,
