A recent Druski comedy sketch about CTE has received reactions from former NFL players, with some questioning the way the topic was handled. Earlier this week, Drew Desbordes, who is famous by his professional name, Druski, uploaded a video on Instagram with the caption:

"ATHLETES GET C0NCUSSI0NS & LOSE THEIR MINDS"

The video has gone viral on the internet, earning over eighteen million views and over 1.4 million likes within two days. While the sketch has received plenty of attention online, not all of the reactions have been positive. Speaking of the CTE skit, Breiden Fehoko on his podcast called out Druski, saying that he:

"Didn’t find it funny at all."

It has also received criticism from other former NFL players, including T.J. Ward and Kyle Long, who questioned the way Desbordes' character showed the effects of CTE.

Druski CTE skit gets criticism from former NFL players over how CTE was portrayed

In the comedy sketch video uploaded by Druski on his Instagram, he is seen getting hit during a football game, with his helmet flying off as he shows signs of a concussion. The video then switches to another scene where his character's behavior becomes increasingly strange, and he gets involved in a high-speed chase in a gold Ferrari, repeatedly hitting his head on a locker door and trying to rap.

The video ends with the press conference being abruptly stopped when he is asked about the number of concussions he suffered during the season and his mental health.

On August 28, the former NFL player Breiden Fehoko spoke about the same on his podcast, The Breiden Fehoko Show, on YouTube, where he called out the comedian for making fun of CTE. He said he did not find the skit funny and explained that while he is a fan of Desbordes and usually finds his comedy hilarious, he felt this was taking things too far.

He added that there should be a clear line between comedy and real-life issues like CTE. He also urged Druski to learn more about CTE and the people who are affected by it. In another statement, he pointed out that CTE can only be confirmed after a person’s death and said he felt joking about it was "cheap."

T.J. Ward, who has played for 8 seasons in the NFL, also commented on the Druski CTE skit in the Speakeasy podcast, saying that CTE can have life-and-death consequences but is often treated differently from other serious diseases when it comes to comedy. He pointed out that people would not usually make fun of illnesses like cancer, dementia, or AIDS, but people with CTE symptoms are often made fun of.

Former NBA All-Star basketball player Michael Redd shared his views on X (formerly Twitter) by writing that Desbordes has had a great run and is very good at comedy, but he should stay away from football jokes. He added that the earlier JSN joke was already "bad," and he went too far by making fun of CTE. Redd also pointed out that CTE is a very serious concern for people who play contact sports, and he feels it is not something that should be turned into a joke.

Kyle Long also shared his reaction on X (formerly Twitter), calling out the comedian by writing:

On the other hand, former NFL player Will Compton shared the video of the comedian on his social media with laughing emoticons. Another NFL player, Stefon Diggs, also commented on the video, where he said:

"Yoo 😂😂😂 someone stop this man"

On August 25, ESPN also shared a report about a new study that found at least one in four NFL players who died between 2016 and 2021 had CTE.
