Freedom 250: Who is still performing after Martina McBride and Morris Day exit?

Freedom 250 has a much more interesting music lineup than it did on May 27, when the Great American State Fair first announced its performers. The event is still set for June 25 through July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, DC. The question right now is which names are still publicly attached to the shows after the early withdrawals started.

USA Today updated its final lineup on May 29. Right now, Morris Day, Young MC, The Commodores, Martina McBride, and the current touring version of Milli Vanilli have all either pulled out or publicly challenged their listing. That has left fans confused about which names are still part of the original announcement and which have actually dropped out of Freedom 250. AP added one more layer by reporting that Fab Morvan still planned to appear under the Milli Vanilli name.

Who is still publicly attached to the Freedom 250 concerts right now?

Vanilla Ice, Flo Rida, C+C Music Factory, and Bret Michaels were the names that were still there on the May 29 update. That still matched the original May 27 Freedom 250 list. And this is not a final revised list as well, there might be many changes in the coming days.

Vanilla Ice has the clearest public support signal. AP reported that his representative said he remains proud to help celebrate the anniversary event. Flo Rida is a quieter case. He is still on the official Freedom 250 announcement for July 2, but so far, there are no reports of him publicly confirming or rejecting his involvement. That keeps him in the still-listed category, but not the fully confirmed one.

C+C Music Factory sits in the middle as well. The group is still on the public slate. However, there is no confirmation yet, as Freedom Williams and the group's account did not say anything about it on May 28. The group account did, however, post that it stays neutral on party politics and that Williams was speaking for himself. In practical terms, that means Freedom 250 still has C+C Music Factory on the list, even though it is not fully confirmed.

Why has the Freedom 250 list gotten so messy?

Milli Vanilli is the best example of why the lineup cannot be treated as one tidy list. USA Today counted the act among the pullouts after singer Jodie Rocco told AP that the current group had not been contacted to perform. But AP also reported that Fab Morvan, who now controls the Milli Vanilli name, separately said he still planned to appear. So there is no confirmation on that yet.

Bret Michaels is another name that falls into the "not sure" category. He was still on the list in the early May 29 USA Today update. Later on May 29, The Guardian reported that Michaels had also stepped away.

That leaves Freedom 250 with one more gap between the first list and the current one. Fans checking the lineup later will need to watch for an official announcement from the organizers rather than rely on the first list that was circulated.

The Great American State Fair is still advertised as a free event, with registration encouraged and walkups welcome, and the page still lists daily themes through July 10. But the music side is changing faster than anything else, as there is so much controversy surrounding it.
