As per reports, Netflix has acquired the film for release. The film will star Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo in the lead roles. So let's get all the details about this upcoming film.

Sweeney has become the top talent in Hollywood lately with several projects under her belt. She was recently seen in titles like Echo Valley, Christy, and The Housemaid.

Sydney Sweeney to star in Gundam

As per Deadline, Legendary is working on a live-action adaptation of Gundam. Netflix is reportedly on board to distribute the film on its platform. Jim Mickle will be writing and directing the film. He is known for helming projects like Sweet Tooth, In the Shadow of the Moon, and Cold in July.

Legendary and the franchise owner Bandai Namco Filmworks have been developing the project for a while. Mickle is also serving as a producer with Linda Moran under the banner of Nightshade. The film will star Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo in the lead roles. Centineo is also a co-producer with Enzo Marc. No official confirmation has come from Netflix or Legendary Pictures.

Yoshiyuki Tomino and Cale Boyter are the executive producers. Brian Avery Galligan and Bryan Chojnowski are the associate producers of the film.

Gundam will mark the first-ever live-action feature in the franchise. A television project was made in Canada back in 1999 titled G-Saviour. The telefilm aired on TV Asahi. The original anime was set in Universal Century. It's a place where human beings have colonized the space. A rebellion takes place between Earth and its colonies. The franchise began in 1979 with a series called Mobile Suit Gundam. It consists of several movies and over 80 animated series.

The project was first announced in 2021 by Legendary Pictures. Jordan Vogt-Roberts was initially attached to direct. However, the director is not involved with the project.

Sydney Sweeney was recently seen in the erotic psychological thriller film The Housemaid. Besides acting, she also executive-produced the film. It was a critical and commercial success. She has also appeared in other films last year, including the biographical sports drama Christy and the thriller, Echo Valley.

In a Magazine interview, Sweeney spoke about her craft.

"I've always trained myself to separate as much as I can from my characters and not to put my own thoughts or memories into a scene. It allows me to know that a character is the one experiencing those moments, feelings, and scenarios, I'm not. When they call “Cut,” I’m able to just jump out of it and be back to Syd."

Fans who are waiting for the forthcoming film will have to wait for more details to emerge. The makers are yet to reveal important details about the same.
