It looks like Happy Death Day 3 is finally making progress, with actress Jessica Rothe revealing more details about the movie. Talking about the third movie, Rothe shared that she and Christopher Landon have already broken the whole story for Happy Death Day 3 and know how they want the sequel to play out.

Happy Death Day was released in 2017, followed by Happy Death Day 2U, which was released two years later. Both movies were directed by Christopher Landon, known for Freaky, Burning Palms, and We Have a Ghost. The movie starred Jessica Rothe as Tree Gelbman, Israel Broussard as Carter Davis, Ruby Modine as Lori Spengler, and Charles Aitken as Gregory Butler.

The first two movies revolved around Tree Gelbman, played by Jessica Rothe, with the first movie following her as she tried to find her killer while stuck in a time loop after getting killed on her birthday. The second movie took things further as Tree found herself in a parallel world and tried to find her way back home.

Announcing the details of Happy Death Day 3's story at Deadline's TIFF Studio, Jessica Rothe shared that she and Christopher Landon have already worked out the full story for the third movie. She further added that they spent hours at a Le Pain Quotidien between their homes, where they worked on the story together.

While the story is already worked out, there is still one thing the movie needs before it can happen, and that is funding. Rothe revealed that they are now waiting for Universal and Blumhouse to give them the money needed to make the third movie. The news was first confirmed by Deadline.

However, this is not the first time Rothe has opened up about Happy Death Day 3. Earlier this year in March, when she was talking to ScreenRant, she said that Christopher Landon already has the third movie's story figured out. She further added that she believes that the more people ask for the movie and keep talking about it, the more likely it is to happen, calling it the "power of zeitgeist."

In a statement reported by Variety, Rothe also made it clear that she is ready to return as Tree whenever the movie happens, adding that whether it takes place next year or when she is 65, she will be there to finish her character's story:

"So, it’s just a matter of when they get all their ducks in a row."

While the third movie has not received a greenlight yet, Christopher Landon has also shown interest in making it in the past. Speaking to Empire in 2020, Landon said that Happy Death Day 3 was on hold at the time, but he, Jason Blum, and Jessica Rothe were still very interested in making it. He also shared that he had already written the idea for the third movie and said that it would be different from the first two.

According to IMDb, Rothe currently has two projects listed, Beware Boiúna and Pathetic Fallacy. Landon's director credits also include two upcoming projects, The Final Girl Support Group and Blink of an Eye.
