Sean Reifel was recently criticised for quitting his cop job to join the cast of Love Island USA season eight by mayor William Reynolds of the town of Bethlehem in Pennsylvania. Reynolds said in a press statement:"Our police department spent a lot of time training and we paid thousands of taxpayer dollars to send him to the police academy. We are disappointed he left as we now have another vacancy in our department that is impossible to fill until next year. I never thought I’d see the day in America where reality show participation wins out over being a police officer."Now Reifel's mother, Beth Reifel Bow, has stepped forward and issued a public response to the mayor and his statement of criticism against her son. In a comment under a Entertainment Tonight Instagram post on the matter, Beth Reifel Bow stated:"This is Sean’s mom, and this makes me very sad because the mayor doesn’t see what a huge missed opportunity this was I care about facts so let’s start with Sean put in for leave. Secondly they didn’t pay for a full academy for Sean."Beth Reifel continued: "Sean came to PA after being a Contra Sheriff Deputy since April 2021 and they paid to put him through a full academy. I’m not saying they didn’t do any training but they also weren’t fully honest about all the details. I’m proud of my son. It is a brave decision to out yourself out there to find love under the microscope of the world."William Reynolds has not responded to this response by Sean Reifel's mother to his criticism of her son as of the writing of this article. Reifel was sworn in as a police officer in the Bethlehem Police Department on August 18, 2025, as per a official Bethlehem Police Department Facebook post. "The Bethlehem Police Department is proud to officially welcome our newest officer, Officer Sean Reifel #532. On August 18, 2025, Officer Reifel was sworn in by Mayor Reynolds, taking his oath to serve and protect the City of Bethlehem with integrity, professionalism, and dedication..."
