DC fans got shocking news this week as they learned that production has been paused on The Batman: Part II. Deadline published a report on Monday stating that director Matt Reeves has temporarily taken a leave from the set of the DC movie to focus on a personal matter. The report doesn't go into any further detail apart from that. This news has drawn varied reactions. Some commenters have even expressed disappointment that Part II could be delayed again. As one fan in their comment pointed out, "There’s about to be a 10-year gap between these Movies". Another fan humorously commented that Joss Whedon could take over the director's chair. The Joss Whedon joke | Image Via: X/@DiscussingFilmFor the uninitiated, Joss Whedon took over Zack Snyder back in 2017 when the latter walked away from Justice League to deal with a family tragedy. While we don't know the nature of Matt Reeves's emergency, it should be noted that the filmmaker has, for now, taken a temporary leave from the set of The Batman: Part II.Reddit has been more supportive of the filmmaker. One user, saying that "family comes first", suspected that Reeves took a leave to solve the same issues that contributed to the slow completion of the script:A comment supporting Reeves | Image Via: Reddit/r/TheBatmanFilmAnother user called out the fan reaction to the news. DC is supporting Matt Reeves despite all the delays. The Deadline report also includes the studio's press release statement, which reads:“Production on The Batman: Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter. Matt has the full support of DC Studios, and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”This is not surprising, because James Gunn in the past was very supportive of Matt Reeves. Last year, he famously said this in an Entertainment Weekly interview:“Listen, we’re supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. Matt’s excited. I talk to Matt all the time. I’m totally excited about it. So we can’t wait to read the scripts, but we haven’t read them yet, if that’s your question.”Criticizing fans, Gunn continued:“Let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That’s just the way it is. He doesn’t owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.”Therefore, it seems Gunn isn't second-guessing backing Matt Reeves's vision for the upcoming sequel. What do we know about the sequel? View this post on Instagram Instagram PostAs of now, we know very little about the sequel. We know Robert Pattinson, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis, and Jeffrey Wright are returning to the sequel.
